The Goodyear F1 gs d3 are great tires, but can cost an arm and a leg. Other brands to keep in mind that will give you great wet traction would be Toyo T1-r's and Falken FK452 and they are not priced as high. Let me know if you have any questions on them.

I drive an R56 with the Dunlop run-flats. They do not perform well at all in the rain. Kinda scary when you hit a bit of standing water and the car wants to fling itself sideways. Bad traction as well. I was driving home last night in a slight drizzle. When pulling away from a stop, I was driving pretty conservatively. Just as I shifted from 2nd to 3rd the car lost traction. This is while going easy on the pedal.

Glad the OP posted this thread, as I was about to do the same.

I live in the SF Bay Area, so my driving is very similar to the OP. I don't want 2 sets of tires for my car. What is the best compromise between rain performance and summer twisties fun? I drive 100 miles every day so good wear-life is important.

That is my primary reservation concerning the GS-D3's. I'm more than willing to splurge on tires, they are arguably the most important mod one can make. However I've heard great things about the Fk452's as well, and $87 per for them vs $135 per for the GS-D3's is quite a huge difference. For me at least... This is for 215/45/17 by the way.

Also you guys (Edge Racing) don't carry the GS-D3's. Since I'm getting my wheels from you all, it'd be a lot easier to get the tires as well so that I can take advantage of the free mounting/balancing.

So any comments on the Falken Fk452's performance in the rain? From everything I've read they are awesome in the dry, but I know that doesn't in any way transfer over to wet grip.

The Toyo T1R and the older T1S is an awesome tire for wet weather. I've never driven the Goodyears but the Toyos are incredible. The Kumho MX is also very good in wet weather driving.

The Falken FK452 has great wet traction. We have had them installed on an 06' Mini and currently on a 07' M Coupe and there have been no complaints.
