Switching from run flats to non-runflats - what about a spare?

Hi. I am giving up the run flats on my '05 MCS and replacing with non-run flats. Because I never got a spare (doughnut) with the car, what do I do? Can I buy a doughnut to fit in an emergency? Thanks.

I've been carrying along a small compressor and a plug kit. It won't get you out of all situations, but it will get you out of most. Some have also bought a donut spare and keep it in the boot. On longer trips I've thought of doing that, but have yet to do it.

I did the same thing - bought a small compressor and a plug kit to keep in the car but I don't have the warm fuzzies about it.

I have 16 inch tires - just replaced the Dunlop RFs that came on the car with Kumho Ecsta ASX 205/50-16. What size donut tire do I get and where do I get it from? Thanks.

This guy is willing to separate his set of 4 (doesn't happen that often). You'd likely spend more on getting a true "spare tire"... The 175/65/15 is a stock wheel/tire combo for a regular Cooper, doesn't weigh much, and would suit your purposes nicely. He's in Maryland, so at least it's not across the nation. I want a finder's fee, though...

Yes, they're close to the same diameter (15 is .5% smaller.) Wouldn't run that way for long though, as the total wheel weight is quite different. Then again, so is a space saver!!

I read somewhere that the donut spare from a Chevy Cavalier/Cobalt will fit OK on a MINI, and doesnt take much space.

I also have the BMW/MINI OEM mobility kit (compressor, latex) but have not had to use it, yet.

Lots of space savers fit...

Honda uses a 4x100mm bolt circle as well. Those are much more plentiful. I do the AAA card spare...

Remember, run flats only solve some tire issues, not all. So the chance of an issue is reduced, but not eliminated.

Thanks. Do you know which Honda model/years have the 4x100mm bolt circle? A Google search drew a blank.

I just found a new Chevy Cobalt (2007) donut for sale online (from a wreck) and bought it (4x100mm, same-same as Mini). Thank you. 'A fraction of what my Mini dealer quoted me for theirs.

Thanks but I found a Chevy Cobolt donut on the internet for sale (salvaged from a wreck). A third of the price (s/h included) of a new Mini donut from my dealer.
