Budget tires, and a question about size
Hey guys time to ditch the run flats
. Money is a pretty big factor in buying tires considering im a student working at slave labor rates. After checking out tire rack I saw some good possibilitys. Im looking for good traction at budget prices. I live in florida so snow is not a issue, and I not to worryied about wet traction.
Possible choices so far
Yokohama paradas spec 2, 75$!!!
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, 125$
Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R, 155$, pretty much out of my price range as of right now. But I hear they are STICKY.
also I have the r90 rims and I was wondering what you can fit on those. 205-45 is stock but ive read that you can go 215-45/40-17. Tell me if im wrong.
Thanks
Mike

if paradas come in your size, that might be one of your best bets. aside from that, i just got a set of general exclaim uhp's on and they're pretty good and really cheap. i've also heard good things about kuhmo ecsta asx's. i had potenzas before and loved 'em, but they are expensive. my personal favorite is yoko avs es100; they're pretty nice summer tires and relatively inexpensive

You may also may want to consider Falken 912's, Falken FK452, Toyo Proxes 4 and Toyo T1-R if money is an issue.

Consider BF Goodrich G-Force Sport performance tires, reasonable, sticky, ride well, fairly quiet, look cool, are good in rain, Z-rated, and mine are wearing nice and even. $440 out the door for 4 205/45/ZR16s thru Discount Tire.
Also yeah you can up in width some, my stock RSCs were 195s, and my rims took the 205s quite well.
But no matter what U get, you WILL notice the difference between those heavy rubber-glob rscs and conventionals, esp in handling and agility

Leo, any problem with the Falken ZE-512's for everyday street use? The price sure is right! Anyone else have experience with the 512's? A friend of mine just bought a used Cooper for everyday commuting in Virginia (usually mild winters) and she's looking for a good low priced tire to replace the stock 15" Contis. Thanks.

215/45-17 will work just fine, 215/40-17 is a bit smaller than stock...
the Azenis RT615 is a good bet if all you are after is dry traction, also consider the Hankook Ventus RS2, i heard they are great in the rain and better wearing than the RT615 too, im trying the RS2 next, as i got autox buddies tell me they also like higher temperatures than the RT615

Well priced, good selection of tire sizes, good comfort but a little heavy.
For 15" stock wheels at edgeracing.com
205/55-15
Falken Ziex Ze-912 $63 each 360 treadwear 21.7 lbs each
Ultra High Performance All Season tire.
Or search at tirerack.com (talk to alex)
205/55-15 or 185/60-15
All Season tires can be run in colder weather and some snow.
Summer tires cannot be run in any snow and the tire rubber gets hard when it's cold.

Take a look at the Dunlops Dirreza Z1. They are cheap and the Tire Rack review is not bad. I run them on my 04 MSC and they have tons of grip. I run the 215/40 17. I love them. Did I mention they are cheap?

The Falken 512 has been a great tire, but like Minihune said it has been replaced by the Falken 912. Both models work well for street use, but I would take the 912 just for the availablity and its easier to replace if you have a problem with one.

Looking for 912 in 205/40-17 but it's out of stock at Edgeracing. For how long? Do you take backorders?

Off topic but has anyone actually used the RS2's? I'm not a huge fan of my existing tires (Yokohama Parada Spec-2), and I was pretty set on the RT-615's till I started reading about the RS2's. Better temperature resistance, probably better rain handling from the looks of the tread, and cheaper?

I just ordered a set yesterday in the same size from the Rack for $92 each. They have been reduced in price because they're discontinued and will soon be replaced by the Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec. There's a discussion on sccaforums.com about this and it's a softer compound but with the same tread design.

Have you looked at the ratings and feedback on the General UHP's. I got a set and I am very happy for a daily driver. I don't know how they would work if you use your car on the track. I got 215/45/17's delivered to my door (slow boat) for $308. For my winter set of tires/wheels in Las Vegas, NV these are working well for me so far.

They are well priced and a good choice for daily use.
