Help me pick a new set of 18" wheels for R53
Hey Guys, I'm very close to selling my 02 MCS and buying an 06 full JCW MCS in CR/W (paint matched fenders) but I really want to change the wheels ( currently has white S-Lites ) to one of these 18" with 205/40/18 tires, please let me know your thoughts. If anyone could do a photoshop that would be awesome. I'd appreciate your opinions between these final 3 only, thanks:
#1 Sport Max 502 2pc (23lbs) 18x7.5 hyper silver 42mm offset:
#2 Motegi DP6 (24lbs) 18x7.5 silver 45mm offset:
#3 Reaction Suzuka (23lbs) 18x7.5 silver 40mm offset:

What constitutes as too heavy? It's all relative, what might be too heavy to you (because you're track/auto-x oriented) may not be too heavy to me (because I don't give a damn, and I GUARANTEE that saving 4lbs per corner won't mean **** around the track unless you've had more than a few track sessions)...
BTW, just because YOU are after lightweight wheels doesn't mean everyone else is...
I had lightweight 18s for a couple of months, did it make a difference? Sure it did, do I care now that they're gone? Nope...

I agree, I don't track my Mini, I had a set of light wheels on another car ( expensive too) which bent on an unseen pothole in the dark. My current Tenzo 18's are 23lbs and durable not that I go looking for pot holes etc but when you only have a 35 or 40 series tire you need a pretty strong rim. Also because I don't track my Mini looks are important to me, wheels can make or break the look of the car imo and I find affordable light wheels are very plain, similar looking and boring. I usually try to look for something different yet good looking and stylish. That's why I sold my OZ superleggera's 18" only 17lbs, nice wheel but it seemed everyone had that style at the time. To be honest narrowing down to these three was pretty easy, I also need to factor cleaning ease as it rains a lot here. Thanks I appreciate everyone's input positive or negative, I just don't get bent out of shape ( pardon the pun) when it comes to weight, it's the last thing on my list and is only considered when all things are equal. There are lots of ways to reduce weight unsrung or not without having to run around on plain ugly looking wheels, if I wanted a track car it wouldn't be my daily driver anyway. Besides to me this is a track car and yes that's me inside after 24 laps @ 160mph!!
I wonder home much those wheels weigh? But with 650hp and no extra weight does saving 3-4lbs per wheel on a Mini really matter? I sure know they are ugly!

Lmao grow up dude. Don't act like a child when someone calls you out or has a different view.
I'd rather hit the gym and drop a couple of lbs before choosing different wheels because of weight.
If I ever go with 18s again I'd run 215/40 as well as I found the 35 series too thin.

Ditto! I can go use the bathroom and drop 4 lbs . These references about reducing weight quite often are hypocritical some do and some don't practice what they preach or things like they have lighter wheels but a 40lb subwoofer box in the rear etc etc.
I know I'm not going 35's again I was looking at 205/40's as they are the closest to stock but 215/40's seem pretty good too. Besides my present Mini is lowered more than the JCW and no rubbing issues withthe 215/35's so I"m guessing it should be a problem with 205/40's, but Wake|MCS you would recommend the 215/40?
PS I like your way if thinking

Honestly yea, my personal preference would be 215/40/18, even on my H-Sports. On my SSR Comps I always found that the 35 series looked too thin and didn't fill the wheel wells enough. I wouldn't worry about rubbing on JCW suspension.
I'd also run the wheel with a spacer to get it as close to the fender as possible, something like a 10mm would be ideal but a 5mm would suffice, I think. Rally knows more about spacers and offsets though.
It's all preference really.

Or you could keep the stock set-up and stay with extremely heavy and painted, not shiny.
It also so happens that load factor is what the suspension was engineered to handle, so it's perfectly fine to have a set of reasonably priced, lighterthanstockbutheavierthanwheelweightnazislike mounted to your car.
