Question about tires..

Hi this is my first post here, I own a 2004 Cooper (pre face lift) and I have finally decided to go for a 17x7.5 ET 40 rim and 205/45 R17 tires.
My question is if I should go 215/45 instead? I have got some help on the mini2 forum and "MINIAC" said I should probably use 205/45 to aviod rubbing because of the rather low ET 40. From what I can see the positive with 205 is less risk for rubbing, less weight, the tyre will stick out less from the sides of the car. 215: better ride quality and fit on the rims. Maybe I am splitting hairs here I need some input ty .

205/45 will cost less usually and will fit a 7.5" wide rim just fine- in face both sizes fit fine.

205/45-17 fits rims 6.5-7.5" wide
215/45-17 fits rims 7-8" wide

Tire selection may differ a little between these sizes.
Which tire were you considering?

Any plans to lower your MINI? If so then 205/45-17 is a better size.

Ride quality won't be much affected by just the tire size difference. If the tires you choose are different for each size then ride quality will be based mostly on the design and characteristics of the tire.

I changed my order..

...completely today, I decided on 205/50 R16 tires with 7x16 rims. I want some comfort and the smaller rims weigh less . I will maybe lose some in looks but I got some very nice OZ rims .
