Show me your lips!

All,

I'm a big fan of big bright shiny lips (on wheels that is!) but I'm not exactly finding a lot of selection out there.

I'd like to see your pics and get your suggestions. I am partial to chrome, but will settle for bright silver if necessary.

Also, when you post your pics, please give details on wheel and tire size too.

THANKS!!!

deep and shiny. No chrome or machined lips here....just a real polish

Probably some of the biggset lips you'll find on a MINI as I haven't run into anyone running an offset as low as mine.

Front: 15x8 et 14 205/50/15

Rear: 15x8.5 et 8 205/50/15

BBS RM's, custom finished in a rally grey powder coat. Lips are aftermarket polished aluminum from Schmidt wheel company in Germany. Gold bolts were sourced through RK importing. Polished BBS centercaps.

Partial to chrome/light silver on the wheel itself or the lip?

I'm thinking about these:
Sportmax 016 (aka Euromax 016)
Size: 17x7.5
Bolt Pattern: 4x100
Offset: 40
Finish: Chrome

Anyone with pics on a MINI?

Not sure if these are deep enough for you but mine are 18" Chrome ASA AR1 with 215R35X18 Pirelli P-Zero M&S I have since lowered the car on H-sports

You won't get much lip if they are 7.5" et40. That picture doesn't show what it would actually look like....my bet is that is the same wheel but in a different size.

Yeah I agree. I found a pic on a Scion running the same size and the lip disappeared and it actually looked pretty ugly. Still searching. Next???

I LOVE those wheels!! Was thinking I needed chrome all throughout, but now you've got me thinking!!!???

I'll be running stock (non-sport, non lowered) suspension and was thinking I'd go with 17's to keep the ride smooth. Did you do any suspension mods? Do you notice a harsher ride with the 18's?

Sportmax shows the lip on the 18's as 2.25" and the lip on the 17's as 2". Wonder if I'll notice much difference? Any thoughts?

Well here's some tire info:

205/45/17 215/35/18 215/40/18 205/40/18
Diameter: 24.26" 23.92" 24.77" 24.45"
Sidewall: 3.63" 2.96" 3.38" 3.22"
speedo: 60mph 60.8mph 58.7mph 59.5mph
diameter diff: 0% 1.41% 2.06% .78%

With my old 2002 MCS I had 215/35/18's lowered with Eibach springs stock struts and the ride was quite harsh, but I love the 18" look, taking the advice of a few NAM members for my 2006 JCW with JCW suspension (slightly lower than stock) I went with 215/40/18's even though the closest to stock is 205/40/18's and I have to say the ride is just as smooth if not smoother than stock 17"s with runflats. So if you are hesitant about the loss of the extra lip go the 18" route with 215's if you really want to keep it stock choose the 205's and I think you will be happy, there are no rubbing issues with this set up, but that's affected more by rim width and offset. The key to the above info as far as ride quality is the "sidewall" height, but some watch the "diameter difference" for affecting the speedo, but most mfg's suggest not going above or below 3.00%. There are a lot more tire choices in the 215/40/18" range vs the 205/40/18". If you decide to go with Sportmax wheels PM me and I'll send you a contact for the best price I was able to find. I just noticed you have an 08 with more wheel gap than the first Gen's and I'm not sure what your stock size is so I'd highly recommend 215/40/18's also Sportmax is one of the few aftermarket mfg's making bolt holes larger enough to except the new Mini 14.125mm wheel bolts vs the old 12.???mm size a lot of aftermarket wheel's holes are drilled for the older size so make sure before you buy htat s 14.125mm bolt will slide through!. I only found this out recently as my Mini's production date is july 06 the same month they changed to the new 14mm size, hope this helps and good luck.

That was a great help! Thanks.

I have feeling that my search would be over if your wheels came in 17s with the same 2.25" lip!
