Automatic Transmission Fluid

Can anyone tell me where I add automatic transmission fluid and what type of fluid do I use. I cannot find a dipstick or a filler tube.

AFAIK, the tranny on the R56 is the Aisin TF-60SN. This is described as the world's first 6-speed AT for 3L and under FWD vehicles, using a Lepelletier gearing system.

Here's a parts list. Note that there is no dipstick, and no filler tube. My assumption is that if you want to change the fluid, you take it to your local AT specialist.

I ran into this already with my MCS automatic. The trans has lifetime fluid in it. The dealer has to add any fluid and use some kind of procedure to make sure the level is correct.

It might be a complicated procedure too.
I wish a bentley manual would come out.

On my 3 series you had to jack it up level,
with the engine running, and in drive (after cycling
through all the gears a number of times), then
while in drive measure the temperature between
like 95 and 105F (forget), then top off the fluid.

Of course billybob just puts fluid in until it runs out
the hole and off you go......

But that's a whole nuther thread!

yeah don't touch the tranny fluid.......you can read a few horror stories from people who accidentally thought the tranny plug was their oil plug.....yikes!

Oh boy....don't any of you read your service manual in the glove box? My USA 2008 service manual clearly states 100,000 miles for an automatic transmission service.

Our automatics are not lifetime fluid and are not sealed. And even if they specified the ATF was lifetime, how can you not recommend it be changed?

MINI specifies an ATX fluid change at 100,000 miles!!!

Let me repeat that...

MINI specifies an ATX fluid change at 100,000 miles!!!

MINI specifies an ATX fluid change at 100,000 miles!!!

there's another thread about this somewhere here-- the dealer can flush and change the fluid, and some who track or auto-x their autos--and/or live in hot weather--change it much more frequently, like every 25-30K.
