R53 Flat Tire Monitor

How do the flat tire monitors work in the R53s? I have wanted to switch the runflats on my 04 Cooper S for some time now but I have been worrying about the flat tire monitor.
Thanks

A flat is detected by tire RPM. The ABS system senses differential speed then turns the light on on the dash. There is nothing in the tire or rim, so change them out.

thanks

Thanks. So there isn't a monitor in the tire that sends a signal to monitor. Now I just need to find another set of rims to mount my runflats on. Can anyone suggest a super sticky summer tire? Do all the Mini oem 17 inch rims fit 205/45/17r's?
Thanks
-Matt
