I am going to be getting the ICW 18inch MAch 10 wheels and I wanted to know if the 225/40/18 Would be ok on the mini or if it would rub? Anyone know?

 

215/40 fits ok with .25 inch clearence on the inside, GP rims with 52 et.

 

225/40-18 is rather tall at 25.1" and would not be a good size to consider.
Stock tire diameter is about 24.3"

If you have stock suspension you can keep to stock size or a little less or more but the taller tires will give you less clearance.

What is the exact size of the Mach 10 wheel? 18x what width and what offset? Do you have stock suspension or lowered? How low vs stock.

205/40-18 fits rims 7-8" wide, 24.4" tire diameter
215/40-18 fits rims 7-8.5" wide, 24.7" tire diameter (a little tall)
215/35-18 fits rims 7-8.5" wide, 23.9" tire diameter
225/35-18 fits rims 7.5-9" wide, 24.2" tire diameter

My suspension is stock and will be staying that way.

As far as the exact size of the wheel its 18inch x 7.5 with a +45 offset.

215/35/18 is fairly common, meaning a good selection. 225/35/18 is also a good choice....Parada Spec 2 if you want a summer tire (www.tires.com has them, Tire Rack does not but could probably get them if you asked).

I ran 215/35 and wasn't upset about the ride quality, but I know others have been.

 

If suspension is stock then you want a tire that is as close to stock sized as possible. Smaller tire diameter means more wheel gap.

So your wheels will fit-
205/40-18 fits rims 7-8" wide, 24.4" tire diameter
215/40-18 fits rims 7-8.5" wide, 24.7" tire diameter (a little tall)
215/35-18 fits rims 7-8.5" wide, 23.9" tire diameter
225/35-18 fits rims 7.5-9" wide, 24.2" tire diameter

205/40-18 is stock sized for MINI 18x7 rims. Good size for runflats if you need them.

215/40-18 is OK for you, a little tall, reduces wheel gap and gives taller sidewall which can be more comfortable for street use and also allows for less risk to rim damage if you hit a pothole.

If your roads are smooth and good then any tire size will work. 35 series sidewalls are rather stiff, be careful about driving on unfamiliar roads. Ride quality could be jarring depending on which tire you select.

All four sizes will work for you but tire selection will be different for each.

Do you need tires that will be for any cold weather? Any snow? Any wet weather?

Do you want the tires to last longer or does it matter? Do you have a budget for tires?

Are the tires for street use only? How important is handling vs comfort?

 

Need tires for summer weather aka warm and wet. The longer they last the better. I do drive a little hard on them. My budget would be under 150 per tire. Street use only most defiantly. Comfort would be nice but not necessary. No runflats. Too much money. I am looking at these yokohamas that are all season AVID W4S.

Yes.

Anytime you lower your car and you use an offset that is less than stock with spacers that make the wheel stick out wide then you must use tires that are less than stock tire diameter.

215/35-18 is best.

215/40-18 will rub, it is taller than stock.

 

 

I actually need same answers too. I just ordered the JCW R105s without steering stops (I was told by Morristown Mini that I won't need them). So which tire to go with, it looks like the 215/40 will rub, right? And the 215/35 is a little small, it'll increase the wheel gap but lower the car...so with them lowering is a must. 205/40-selection is bad and I'm not buying the run-flats. I guess there is no perfect tire....
Opinions???

 

Hey Kopov, I'm actually scheduled to pick up my Mini next week at Morristown and will be buying the JCW r105 black rims as well. I've been debating whether to get the run flats that come with them or just buy tires seperately. Do all those tire sizes fit those rims?

Yes, those sizes fit the JCW sized stock rim ok.
215/40-18 will probably work even if a little taller than stock.
At worst under load you might get a little rubbing and you can do a little trimming of the inner plastic arch but mostly likely not.

215/35-18 is smaller and would increase wheel gap. Also has a stiffer sidewall.

Perfect tire?
Depends on your budget but the 205/40-18
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 (Max Perf Summer tire) is a good tire though not cheap and in low stock right now at tirerack.com. Normally we don't get to look at that tire due to it doesn't come in many sizes that MINIs can use.

A very capable tire good for wet or dry handling and comfortable enough for the road. Not for any snow.
Has the stock size so it fits. 220 treadwear.

OK for street, not as sharp handling, comfortable, OK for light snow or colder temps.

 

I'm running 215/40/18's on 18x7.5 rim 42mm offset with JCW suspension on my R53 with no rubbing issues at all, so R56 stock suspension will have no rubbing problems and will help to fill the gap. I can't remember his name but there was a guy on here with a R56 with 215/35's the gap was so huge he sold the barely used tires at a huge loss and went to 215/40's. There's also a decent selection this size.

The r105s were installed today. I went with Yokohamas S-lights in 205/40/18. Perfect fit, nice price @$122/tire from Discount tires. What a difference. I don't get why people buy these run flats. They're so much heavier, ride is so bad. My car now rides softer with 18" non RFs than before on the 17" with RFs. They fit so nice that I don't think I will need to lower the car (I guess it has something to do with the rims' black color)
Since I know how to plug a tire all I need at this point is the Mini/BMW Mobility kit and that's it.

 

I actually bought the same wheels with the same size tire...did you put spacers on? Just curious, the mini has not arrived yet.

No I didn't install the steering stops. I checked with Morristown Mini and they said I shouldn't have any issues. I don't have any rubbing issues but didn't go with 215/40/18 because of that.

Did you use spacers with your r105's? I don't mean the steering stops. I have black r105's with the stock perf runflats still, and was thinking of adding spacers. The r105's seem to be recessed into the wheel wells to much, so I wonder if adding spacers would improve the look.

 

No I didn't install the spacers. I am not sure if they can improve the look. I like the looks of them on mine, except the wheel gap. I may lower it a little bit with JCW springs.

 

I have a new mini its not an s but i plan to do stuff to it i found so enkei 18 inch rims i like they are 215/35r18 in the front and 225/40r18 in the back i want to know if this is good. or should i go with smallerf rims
