To confirm: R56 w/rubber valve stem means no direct TPMS?

Hi

About to buy a set of wheels that cannot take the direct TPMS system. I just wanted to make sure that if my R56 has rubber (not metal) valve stems, that it indeed has the older style system on the R53. So that I will not need TPMS sensors mounted.

Thanks for the help guys!

correct, if you have rubber valve stems then it senses changes in tire pressure via the rotation speed of the wheel, not via a sensor mounted inside the wheel. So yes, you're good

Can anyone say if the R53 sensor will trip if there was a different size tire on front vs rear. e.g. 2xF=215/45/17; 2xR=205/45/17

I'm not certain but I think it measures the difference from left to right, not front to back. At any rate, if it trips, you can reset it. Why are you running different sized tires?

Since my last set, I decided to follow MINI's recomendation of not rotating tires, which IMO they perform much better. But of course the front tires wear faster than the rear and Kumho is no longer offering 205/45-17 in the Ecsta SPT.
