Wheel ?

Not to offend anyone, but which wheels should new owners avoid; from the standpoint of not selecting the same wheels as every other Mini owner? I think I like the mesh style better than most, but everyone already has them. So, if in fact the market is flooded with any one or two styles, which are they????

New or old owners don't have to avoid anything.

If you want to be unique then do custom one offs. Won't be cheap but you can get anything you want- like what Chip Foose does on the TV show.

Look at the MINI stock designs- that's what we start with. Those are common.

Now look at the aftermarket designs-

Some have no bolts and some have it.

Some have few spokes- 3,4,5, or 6.

Some have many spokes- 10, 12, or more.

Some are star pattern (5 spoke) but with some variation.

Some are double spoked- two thin spokes vs one thick spoke.

Some are colored/painted

Some have a polished lip

Some have deep dish

Some have an exposed wheel cap with bolts showing some covered up and flush.

Popular are wheels that are darkly finished like anthracite or black to hide the brake dust.

Popular are white wheels to match the MINI's white roof or side mirrors.

Rare would be any very expensive wheel or wheels larger than 18".

Rare would be a stock wheel like the R90 or Web spokes that are refinished or painted with another non stock color like body color or gold or something that makes it unusual. Keep the lip silver but color the center spoked section. It's been done, search. MINI does make it with an anthracite center or completely darkened.

Search for your options in the wheel forum- there are many threads with pictures.

Pick what you like for your MINI, so what if others have done the same, make yourself happy and don't worry about what others have done.

I get the impression that being unique is what would make the OP happy, hence the question.

There are a few wheels that are very, very popular with the MINI set:

OZ Ultraleggeras

Any "Time attack" wheel (Time Attacks are black/dark colored wheels with a red stripe around the edge of the wheel). They are made by several manufacturers, but the original was Volk Racing:

ASA AR1's:

The best place for you to see what others are doing, and get some ideas on what you'd like to do is this thread:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=11362

It will only take you about 30 minutes or so to go through the whole thing quickly, just checking out the pics. And as others have said, if any of these are to your liking, just go for it, nevermind what others are doing.

That's the feedback I was looking for; thanks. Trust me, I have literally spent at least 20 hours looking through threads, as well as wheel sites such as Tire Rack. And although I have a good idea of what people are going with, I needed some reassurance. Ultimatley it will come down to what I like, but I've always valued the opinions of others.

+1

There's usually a reason that wheels become popular, IMO. Whatever you buy, chances are still pretty slim you're ever going to see another MINI that is an exact carbon copy of yours.

Nothing wrong with wanting to be unique, as long as you're still buying wheels that you like and are a good fit for what you're looking for though.

Besides Tirerack.com wheels mentioned.

Outmotoring.com has Team dynamics rims that are popular.

Edgeracing.com has many wheels including Flik wheels.

Rota wheels are popular at
http://www.fastmini.net/wheels.html

Classic MINI wheels include-
Panasport and Minilytes
or Rota RB wheels-
http://www.fastmini.net/rotarb.html

BBS are very popular.

Racing Hart RS 451 are rare.

Hamann wheels (expensive) are more rare.
