Currently New Dunlop is the winner. Then I'd put Potenza RE070 followed by R1-R.
There is always the racing Nitto or Yokohama if you're looking for pure performance off the street.

+1 on that. I bought the Dunlaps in the 215/45/17. In two autox's, I've had times as good as or better than the S2000's - And I'm completely stock! Yes, they are a little loud, but they're also more than acceptable in the rain.

How long should the star specs last with normal "spirited" street driving?

What would be the model #'s for the Nittos and Yokohamas?

I recall seeing a tire which was listed as a street tire but the tread was so minimal that it was practically a racing tire...anybody know what I'm talking about? I thought it was either Toyo or Yokohama....
