Blacked out R84's

Hey,
Just wonderin' anybody out there have any pics of the R84 wheels/V Spoke's that have been painted black? Thought that it would be a cool, cheap changeover to give the Lil' Red Rocket an attitude adjustment! Anyways.....like to hear what everybody else has to say bout the matter.

I second that request! Also, how would one accomplish the "black out" most successfully?

Blacked-out R84s. They were chemically stripped, then sand-blasted. Paint is cheap rattle-can Duplicolor. Tires are Hoosier 205/45-16

Nice job KRWALSH!!! Those look great! What kind of chemical stripping agent did you use? How long did it take? I like the look without the center caps too. Now you just need to get the rest of the car blacked out!!!

Wheel Chemical Stripping and painting

The wheels were chemically stripped by Dura-Finish in San Mateo, CA. The bath is a combination of Methylene Chloride and Muriatic Acid (Hydrogen Chloride). It was dipped for about 36 hours total, and all that did was remove most of the paint and turn the rest of it to goo. Cost for all 4 wheels was $120. Then I had them sand-blasted by Perfection Powder Coating in Belmont, CA. They charged me $50 to knock all the rest of the paint off and give me a great surface for the paint. After that, two cans of Duplicolor and it was done. There are no center caps because the track-day folks have you remove them to keep them from flying around the track. I never bothered to paint the center caps, so they're still sitting in my shop and still silver. The picture was from yesterday's Hooked on Driving track day at Laguna Seca. I managed a sub 2 minute lap with a box stock 05 R53 on Hoosier R3S03s.

As for the rest blacked out, probably not. These are just the track wheels and tires. It rides on regular ole silver R84s the rest of the time. My wife calls the black ones "the dress shoes" for when it gets all dressed up to go tear it up.
