Kumho ASX vs Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position
Any thoughts on these? I'm coming due for tires soon. I don't need super-tires. I'd like decent grip, ride comfort, mileage, etc, iow, a well-balanced tire, and a low price on top of that. Pros and cons of each? Anything else in this class I should be considering? Thanks muchly.

I put 215/45R-17 Bridgestone Potenza G 019 Grid XL tires on my MCS. I ordered them from Tire Rack and had Firestone shop here locally install them. The GM of the shop told me that the Potenza Grid tires were the best tire he sold.
I have since driven in rain and snow, and I am VERY impressed. It was the best rated tire on Tirerack.com.

I have 205/55/16 RE960AS on now, which replaced Yokohama AVS100 of the same size. I like the Bridgestones. They have good grip (turn in not as quick as Yokos) are quiet (much, much quieter than Yoko) and ride comfortably (much better than Yoko). Yokohamas gave me 30K miles, about 1K on Bridgestone so can't comment on mileage but I expect to get at least 40K.
Sorry, no experience with Kumho so I can't comment on them.

I have been very happy with some BFGoodrich Traction T/A V tires. I use the 205/50VR16 mounted on my stock 16" rims. Great ride, smooth, quiet, great wet and dry traction. My wife had these on her Audi A4 Quattro and was very happy with them during the 55,000 miles they lasted. I hope to get somewhere near as much on the MINI. Hopefully more than the 23,000 miles I got with the stock Dunlops.

I have had the re960as for about 10 months, about 12k miles. Road noise is non existent. Very smooth, no balancing problems. Ok on ice. Good in the snow. Did have Falken ze512's Got rid of those, I had 4x4 truck tires that were quieter than those things.
Mine are wearing fairly quick. Maybe will last a 4-5 more months. I drive rather aggressively though. I was hoping they would last longer but the mountain roads and the curves on the way to work are just to tempting. The size is 205/55/16. I would by them again as I doubt any other all season will last any longer with the way I like to push the car.
On a trip from Colorado Springs to Durango i got 38mpg. In town I get around 27 mpg.
Sam's club had the best price.
