Goodyear GS-D3 being discontinued

I found out from Discount Tire this morning that the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 is being discontinued (or at least the 205-50-16 size is).

I imagine something better is replacing them (or maybe already has replaced them, but I only need 2 tires right now), but figured y'all want to know.

I hope this is not the case. I picked up a new set of GS-D3s (215/45-17) a few months ago and should be set for a while, but if something should happen to one of the tires that is not somehow repairable, I hope that I wont have to resort to replacing all four because there's nothing to match anymore.

I'd be sad too...

cause they're a great tire for my driving needs. Wonder what's next up from our friends at Goodyear?

Hopefully not something made from the new stock car tire fiasco production.

F1 Asymmetric is what's new. Let's hope they make more sizes available as they're pretty limited right now

I was going to order those. I tend to find good things/deals just as they are discontinued, closed, taken off the menu, etc. Between that and how the size, color, style or whatever I need is never in stock. I just spent a week picking out tires only to place the order and find the wheels I want aren't currently in stock.

When I picked my car up from Discount the guys were not aware of the entire GS-D3 line being discontinued (but that doesn't mean it isn't).

Goodyear's web site does not list 205-50-16 as being available, so maybe it's just that size they aren't making anymore. In fact, Goodyear now makes exactly 0.0 high performance tires in that size - plan your tire wear accordingly, folks.

Maybe I'll get some 17" wheels next time since there seem to be a lot more tire options at that diameter than at 16".

My local tire dealer also informed me that they were being discontinued. Perhaps that's another reason why tirerack has them discounted.

They are $49 each on Tire Rack now.

At any rate - I am p!ssed at Discount Tire. I went in this morning to replace a damaged tire, decided to buy a 2nd tire because I was at 5/32 on another and was quoted $194 per tire. I specifically asked the salesperson, Charlie, to look it up on Tire Rack to check their price, and he absolutely did not tell me they were $49 each online.

Fortunately, the tires had to be shipped so tomorrow I will cancel my order. I cannot believe Discount Tire would do something like this. They seem to be a good company with nice employees and great service, and I have recommended wholeheartedly on this site in the past. This just blows my mind. I have gone in there many, many times and several of the employees know me and my Mini well. For someone to try to screw me out of $150 per tire disgusts me.

perhaps you should look in the mirror for the guilty party. you should not have placed the order if you weren't ok with the price.

I was okay with the price based on his lie. I asked him to check Tire Rack. Generally Discount's prices are a little higher on tires, but the difference is made up by not paying shipping and their lower installation fees. I didn't question him because based on past experiences at the store I presumed he wouldn't lie to me about Tire Rack's price. Were I to do business with them again, I would make them show me the monitor.

Discount has always been really good about matching prices for me.. I've even gotten them to match prices on comparable tires that weren't exactly the same to get pretty good deals.. I'd definitely take it up with them, or call another store.. they are supposed to price match.

Goodyear Germany, where the good GS-D3 is manufactured, shows the tire as available.

http://eu.goodyear.com/de_de/tires/r...jsp?page=sizes

Maybe some vendors in the US are no longer selling certain German made sizes opting for the cheaper made in China versions of the GS-D3.

They've always been good to me as well, which is the real reason this upset me. The past 3 times I have bought tires from them I have had them compare their prices to Tire Rack at the counter without any issues. They are happy to do it because their prices are always competitive. I don't understand what was happening yesterday.

At least they worked it out with me this morning by canceling the order - and actually ordering the tire from Tire Rack instead of from wherever they were getting theirs. They pointed out that the Tire Rack closeout is listed as a 2004 tire, so maybe it wasn't apples-to-apples to their $194 version, but I think that should have been dealt with upfront.

Anyway, I end up with one tire from them as a free replacement to my damaged tire, one I'll get installed at Tire Rack's recommended place and I'll have an extra in case anything happens down the road.

Except Discount Tire is happy to do it because they can then explain how with shipping and install costs their rates come out ahead.

apparently not in this case.

don't get me wrong - I asked the local Goodyear store what the cost was for 245/40/18 F1 All-Season for my STI - they told me "$275 + mount and balance"...about $1200 total. Tire Rack + mounting at Costco cost me about half of that.

I looked and dont see it for 49... in that size at any price actually...

My size 215-45-17 is still 163. Do we actually KNOW they are disco'ing the tire vs just that 16 inch size, or guessing?

205/50/16 is the tire size in question. These are German made - and I have currently have plenty. 2004 production date - but correctly stored!

We know their blowing our the coveted Geman made stock. I'd expect a replacment tire in the sping, but no formal declaration has been made at this point.
