A different feel on my new general exclaims
Hello!
So I just got new OZ wheels and General Exclaims. I love them. So much better than the crap dunlop RF's...
Anyway, I noticed something different when I push the tires in the twisties. They don't squeal! I feel like I'm pushing them pretty hard, but I get a little nervous because I get this floaty feeling, like the tires are sliding, but I don't think I'm losing traction. I figured I'd hear some squealing before that happened.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about or know what might be going on?

Once you get enough squirm to approach the slip angle (when the grip goes away) You'll have an audible warning.

I agree with Alex. You are experiencing sidewall flex.
The sidewall on the run flats are very, very stiff; remember they are designed to hold up your MINI with no air in the tire. Where as the sidewall on your new tire is a lot softer and more flexible when you really dig hard into a turn. This will be normal for any non run flat.
You don't see it mentioned a lot, but you really need to be careful how hard you run them into curves and such until you get 500 or so miles on them. Street tires that are new can get you into a heap of trouble very quickly until they get broken in.

I have had the General Exclaims, 215/50/16s, on my car for 11K now, but they are my second set of non-runflats, so the sidewalk flex was not new to me. Compared to my previous Kumho Ecstas, the Generals seem stickier, almost never squealing, and somewhat stiffer in the sidewalls. If they last reasonably well, I have found my tire .

Bridgestone RE-01Rs here. I hadn't noticed the stiffness of the runflats until I switched, and I noticed the sidewall flex right away. The grip is outstanding, however. Now they need to hurry up and research runflat technology faster... runflats with non-runflat noise-levels and grip would be outstanding.
