The best reasonably-priced tires

Help, please. I really do not want to pay $350 for the stock Dunlop hp tires that came on my MINI. However, I would like something that sticks to the road at least as well. I'm considering the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season. They apparently have good tread wear and traction... and they're 1/3 the price at tirerack.com.

Please don't hold back. More info is better. I need good high performance tires for less than $150 each!

Thanks!

We need more info.

What size? 16", 17", 18"?

All seasons? Summer only?

Do you want a lot of grip and short lifespan on the tires? A balance of the two? Long life at the expense of ultimate grip?

Will "loud" tires annoy you?

etc.

I'm in the same spot. I was pretty much sold on the Goodyear F1 All Seasons. Thought occurred to me to check out Consumer Reports as I have a subscription (hello?)

#1 and #2 for UHP All Seasons was tie between Nitto NeoGen's and Falken ZE912's (not sure on the Falken's model #). According to CR they took these tires and mounted on a Audi A4 and beat the livin' crap outta em'. The F1's didn't even rank. Nitto's for me. Still trying to figure out installed cost between online resource's and local tire shops but it looks to be around $190-$200 per installed, maybe a little less

Summer only - I got a set of 215/45x17 General Exclaim UHP's a year ago and have been very happy with them. Current price is $85 at Tire Rack; I think they were a bit less then.

All,
Thanks for the quick replies!
Looking for 205 or 215/45 Z or W 17. Sounds like maybe UHP is the way to go. I would like all season tires, but certainly high performance is what I'm after. Don't care about noise very much, or a smooth ride at all. I want to tear the corners on tires that won't wear out in 15k miles. Am I asking for too much?

Thanks again!

I am looking for tires as well. I now some falken azenis 215/45 17.

I also want somerthing with grip BUT unlike these I dont want to wait until my tires heat up to give the grip I want. Cost isnt so mucn an issue though I would like something that lasts a little longer than the tires I have on now. Thanks to the OP for the thread.

pretty sad to see the ziex912's at the top. they are garbage, imho. i use it on a daily basis on my
daily driver and it has no grip under 40F especially
in the wet.

for those in warmer climates they work pretty decently for wat it is.
im not going to get another ziex for sure though.

forgot to mention... for my MCS, i run 'decently priced' tires called
Dunlop SportMax in the factory size 205/45/17 although they are much
wider than the SP9000DSST's my R53 came with.

they have already saved me from a nasty accident (some middle
aged woman in a camry darted across a 45mph street without looking).

Looks like I'm late to the party.

Nokian Z G2's, they come in a 215/45/17 size. I would get a set if they made them in 15" sizes. These are basically dry/wet autobahn tires for audi or bmws.

It depends on how you define reasonable priced. For me those Nokians are way too expensive. I have been trying to decide between Dunlop DZ101, Star Spec's and Hankook RS2's. All of those come in at under 120 a tire in the sizes I am looking at (16in), and in the case of the DZ101 way under.

If you don't mind the noise, I would highly recomend the Dunlop Z1 Star Specs. Good summer and rain tire but bad in the snow.

I don't think tha anyone invented such tire yet. If you are looking for maximum grip and you drive hard you have to assume that the tires will not last you longer than a season. Grip =/ Longevity

Dunlop Direzza Star Spec or new Bridgestone Potenza RE-11

I'm with your here as I'm also looking at DZ101's. they don't have too good of a review especially from people in High Performance cars. Another alternative that I'm leaning towards is Pirelli PZero Nero, currently for the same price as DZ101

According to Tire Rack tests, the Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 beats it in all handling aspects, except braking. The PE2 is also quieter.

Well due to a huge screw in my tire I got in the parking lot of my office I was forced to buy new tires this afternoon. They would not fix the hole due to the treadware. Something about not being able to do that legally. I wanted to get the BF goodrich gforces but they were out and I needed to get back to work.

I went with the yokohama S Drives...
http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?ti...odel=S%2EDrive

I have only driven then 20 minutes so I dont have many thoughts other than there is a HUGE improvement in comfort over the Falken Azenis 615s I had. Night and day. Its raining here and I was always scared driving with my old tires

These worked much better in the rain.

$100? I just bought them there, I didnt pay 100. I am going to their website now and may drive back there if I have been ripped off.

Ah ok, now I see. Maybe 100 if you have 15's
http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/tir...78230&pc=43672

Mine are $130 at discount tire. I was scared for a sec

I think that is reasonable.

Cannot wait to get my UHPs installed... it'll be April 22 in West Point, CA. One of the curviest, MCS-iest places on Earth, the foothills of the Sierras.

Woo hoo!

Whatever you do, do not run the Kumho run flats. They are absolutely terrible. On the rears, within less than 1000 miles, they start cupping on the inner 2 inches of the tire. Rotating and balancing just makes them noisy and are bascially garbage at that point.
