Ok after some thought of selling my rims I decided to keep them and paint them. Thinking black and hyper black wheels have been played out I went with classic BBS gold to go with the design of the wheel and it works well with Space Blue. Finally got them on the car and took some quick phone camera pix.....will get better pix with real camera soon.
Thanks guys! I was worried when I first painted them but like them a lot. I worked on them over a two week period and learned a lot on what not to do. One thing I learned is FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. Here's a before and after.
I was thinking of doing my rims gold as well. mines indi blue, but with the white stripes I wasnt sure if white would be better.
I am curious how well the paint will last against chips. Ive painted rims before, but only on clients vehicles that were sold after they were completed or were not daily driven.
Muladesigns1: I used Duplicolor engine enamel since they dont have a gold wheel paint and then sprayed a coat of Duplicolor Clear Wheel paint which has been track tested and supposed to keep off brake dust. Based on others its pretty tough paint. You can pick this up at any auto store. If you go to Duplicolor website they have a DIY video.
Dupli color is very well known for there plastic paints, I didnt think of them for the aluminum.
Ive used R-M brand before to do rims but I would think the engine paint would work better since the rims have the brake heat to deal with.
thanks for the info.

Are those rims in 2 pieces to allow you to spray the gold and leave the polished lip or did you do an incredible tape job?

They are one piece wheels I had to tape each rivet along with the lip. Yes it was a pain........at times I wished I had just them painted flat black but I am happy considering its a DIY.
