I just did my first SOLO II event last weekend. My 17" run-flats have got to go. I heard rumor that the SCCA magazine had an autocross tire test. Is this correct? My hope is that they tested some real street tires (summer compounds?) and not just those that have a couple of grooves so they can be called legal.

If so, could someone let me know their results?
If not, I'm open to opinions besides what is on the Tire Rack site.

 

Haven't seen the SCCA article but the upcoming June 2009 Grassroots Motorsports is supposed to feature a test of the latest Street touring class tires. Should be interesting!

 

BTW: News stand on Hollywood Blvd, near Popeyes carries the SCCA magazine. (Sports Car Magazine)

I just received my Grassroots Motorsports and it does have a tire comparison. The article compares some extreme street tires such as the Dunlop Dirzza Sport Z1, Falken RT-615, Kuhmo Ecsta XS, and Toyo R1R.

 

I guess I'll change that from "I'll be looking for it" to I'll GO looking for it! Thanks for the head's up.

 

The Grassroots Motorsports mag tire test basically says [based on lap times]:

#1) Kumho XS
#2) Bridgestone RE-11
#3) Bridgestone RE-01R
#4) Toyo R1R
#5) Dunlop Star Spec
#6) Falken RT-615

They commented on subjective impressions to give you an idea how they feel. They ran the tires shaved to 3/32nds, so how they behave new may be different. They didn't test the Hankook RS3, Yokohama AD08, and some others because they couldn't get comparable sizes or the tire isn't available yet. It's a knockout article, and the rest of the issue is top-shelf as always. Go pick one up if you're not a subscriber!
