Ok, so my IB/IB MC CVT is on the water and making its way over here, and I am planning on putting some after-market whells on my baby one she arrives. However, I am in a quandry as to whether to look at 16 or 17 inch rims. I have seen some 17 inch ones that look too much like the entire wheel is rim, with very little rubber around it (those tirese were 205/35 R17) and that is not quite the look I was going for, but I have 17 inch rims on my MBZ SLK 230 with 245/35 R17 tires, right now, and they don't look like that and so I was wondering if it was just the tire size that makes that look? Also is there a difference in ride quality between 16 and 17 inch rims. And finally, for my SLK I have always had to get very expensive z rated tires because of the 17 inch rim. Two questions: Do you have to use a z rated tire with 17 inch rims, and second do I really need the z rated tires to enhance or maintain the performance of my mini. Ok, so I know it is a lot of questions all rolled into one, but I was hoping to get them all out there at once.

V rated tires are sufficient for the MCS, H ratings for MC. Remember, 17" rims = rough ride, especially with ultra low profile tires. I'd go with a 45 or 50 profile, max. on 205 tread width. Unless you are a chiropractor, go with the 16" rims. Just my little idea of a joke. Doctor.

Don't go with the 205/50 as suggested above on a 17 inch rim, that will throw off your speedo. If you decide to go 17 go with 215/45/17 if you decide 16 go with 215/45/16 or 205/50/16 or 195/55/16

I just ordered 17X7.5 HRE rims and going with S-03 215/45 on my car. :smile:
