Dustin,

I'm a newbie at all this hands on stuff, but my Mini is bringing it out in me!

I'd like new brake pads becuase of the dust! Don't plan any race days, but drive somewhat average to spirited. Which pads would you recommend? Are they easy to replace myself?

Thanks!

I'm not Dustin, but I play him on TV - and he'll say "CarboTech Bobcats"

Here's my writeup on the Bobcats vs. the AX6 pads:

Easy DIY project, but does require a little time and know-how and a few tools. See the how-to's here:

Thanks! As for your comment above, it's the "know-how" part that worries me.

We all have a "first time"... no worries - just read the DIY's first - if it sounds like something you can handle - then you can - it's not that hard.

Paul's right, he likes it when I say that out loud , and the Carbotech 1521 aka Bobcats are a great pad for you. You may also need rotors if you have more then 40K on the current set.

If you are just doing pads it is a piece of cake, there is very little that you can mess up if you follow the DIY's.

Silly question here gang . . .

Can I just change out the front pads or do I need to change out front and rear?

Depends on what you do with your car, and what your goals are, but the answer is yes you CAN. Wether you SHOULD will depend on what you're after....
