SSR Comp vs Centerline RPM
#1
I'm not 100% sure my source for some very gently used SSR Comps is going to come through in time for me to install on my soon to arrive MCS. Until I got advice from Alex at Tire Rack, I thought I might powder coat them, which would have brought my cash outlay $200 closer to the retail for new SSR's.
So now, faced with possibly buying new rims;
The 17x7 SSR's are pricing at $375 at Tire Rack.
Centerline RPM's are $315, where I can't remeber, but I know some one is selling them at that price.
The RPM's are about 2 lbs heavier, (still quite light by stock standards) but they are $60 a rim cheaper. Both look great. Both come in Silver, but RPM's are available in Black Pearl as well as Polished. SSR's in Silver or Anthracite.
My MCS is Black.
Opinions? Any one know of a better price for SSR's?

SSR Competition 17x7.5 et42 13.0 lbs (note the centerline RPM are 17x7) Both take the same size tires.
>>Centerline RPM's are $315, where I can't remeber, but I know some one is selling them at that price.
Centerline RPMs are at Webbmotorsports but some colors are in short supply- check with Randy.

Centerline RPM also is available in chrome finish for about $400 more per set and weighs about 2 pounds per rim more than the stock centerline RPMs. Overall they are about the same in strength as the SSR comps. Less weight for the SSR with retained strength means more cost so that is about right.
>>My MCS is Black.
SSR comp 17" anthracite (but looks kinda light?) finish Indi Blue MINI
SSR comp 17" anthracite black mustang
Centerline RPM 17" polished IndiBlue MCS
Centerline RPM 17"Antracite EB MCS
The darker finishes with a black MCS is more aggressive.
Silver is pretty safe with black and polished or chrome for the centerlines are more dressy.

minihune - though it isn't obvious from my rather low light photo, this is actually the anthracite w/ polished lip - if it wasn't mine I wouldn't have guessed right either, I think there just wasn't enough light to get good color saturation

>>Wow, if it is anthracite you have then the light is playing tricks on me. Sorry.
>>Now this is antracite (centerline RPMs of course)
It's an easy mistake to make with the SSR Cs....especially with a less than perfectly lit/colored photo. Anthracite is a non-specific word used too many different ways by wheel manufacturers. You've heard of off-white? To me SSR's anthracite is sort of off-silver. You can tell easily in person if you look at the line between the "anthracite" on the rim and the machined lip, but from a distance it's hard to tell. That's actually one of the things that sold me on the SSRs....I didn't want "silver", "bright" or "polished" (all too close to chrome for a chromeaphobic like me) but I also didn't like black or the darker anthracites.
