Stock R56 17" Rims - Widest tire?

I'd like to go with a Fuzion HRi 225/45/R17 from TireRack, but I'm no positive that I'll have the clearance with the offset on the stock rims.

a couple considerations...
  • the overall diameter of the tires are within half an inch of the stock 205's so that should be fine.
  • according to the specs, a 17x7 is about the narrowest rim these tire will fit on.
  • I'm running the NM lowering springs and sway bar. clearance issues should be about on par with other lowered suspensions.
  • I rarely carry any weight in my car, but I am fairly aggressive in the corners.
  • If this doesn't work out, what other tires would be recommended for my fall/winter commute.
Hopefully somebody is already running these tires and can give a quick report. thanks!

Don't know about the Fuzion, but sizes should fit on R56, I have GY F1 GSD3 225/35-18 with 18x7 et52, but needed 5mm wheel spacers on R53. I also have Toyo R888 in 225/45-17 on 17x8 et42 needed some liberal cutting of plasitc and fender trim, really it was more the rather tall 45 series size not the 225 width that made it rub. But the R56 has A LOT more room though. Some have run 235/40-17 on both cars, but the R53 needed some cutting to fit.

If you are asking what I think you are asking, the dia. of a 225/45-17 is going to be about 0.5" larger than the stock 205/45-17. A 215/45-17 is going to be about right. I base this on the specs for the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11.

I was actually asking about the significance of that 1/2 inch in diameter. My fuzzy math puts that at about +2% per revolution. which i wouldn't think would be too noticeable.

With all the different setups being run here, i would like to hear if anyone running a 25" diameter tire has any feedback or regrets.

Ultimately, i'm most concerned about rubbing. 215/45 would be the conservative approach, but, i would rather go wider if they'll fit.
