Advice Wanted: Painting Wheels
I have a set of wheels, black with polished metal (silver) lip (not Chrome). I would like to paint the polished lip black at home. I did a mock-up with a damaged spare wheel and just a cheap can of spray paint - and even that ended up looking OK.
Can anybody advise on how I should do this to make it look as good as possible?
Any surface prep other than cleaning? What kind of paint should I use?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You didn't mention if the wheel lips are clearcoated or just polished.
If they are clearcoated, then you can sand them with a scotchbrite pad, then spray them with some satin black trim paint. (assuming you are going all black) I would scotchbrite the entire wheel and spray the whole thing with light even coats.
If the wheels are polished aluminum lips, the same rules apply but you need to get some sprayable metal etching primer to put on the lips so the paint has some way to adhere.
Hope that helps.
