Newer MINIs (I don't know the switchover date) have transmitters in each tire (now required by Federal safety legislation). Older MINIs measured the difference in wheel speed using the antilock brake sensors.
I think they changed over some time around Aug 2007. I remember not knowing which one I would end up with on my early Sept 2007 build but got the new style.
I need to replace my runflats tomorrow, but Im having trouble deciding which tire. I have a 2008 S Hardtop and I live in Philly so I need a all season, does anyone have a preference.

I got Pirelli Euforias at Discount Tire. $1,100 for four with road hazard certificate. Better ride and less noise than the original Dunlops. Put over 8,000 miles on them in less than a month in all conditions, including a lot of rain and some snow. Hit a pothole at 70 MPH and put a bubble in the front left tire. A local Discount Tire dealer replaced it without problems. I'm a happy customer.
