I know there are a lot of owners with black rims; don't get offended but, I don't get the point of black rims.
You can't see the any of the rim's detail. Maybe if you have an all black car and wanted to do the whole "blackout" thing, i can see the point.
I've seen so many people spend a LOT of cash on black rims that you can't appreciate because, well, they are painted black.
Any one else?
No hating please.
I think being consistent with the color theme of a car is very important, and buying black WHEELS (can't stand when people call them rims) when they'll blend well with colors is alright in many owners minds. As far as me, I can see the detail in black wheels just fine
See....to me, this looks much better. Just my 2 cents. The wheels add a great highlighted detail to the car. Ties in nicely to the chrome accents and accentuates the EB. The black wheels look very track oriented, but the silvers look better.
I agree. I've thought about changing to black w/the silver machined lip on Scoopie. Since she's PH all over (no contrasting color) with chrome accents (I happen to like my chrome), that would be my best option to keep her entire look tied together and not have totally black wheels disappear amid the fender trim. Of course, like others have said, I'll reiterate: You-ification is a 1derful thing!
I like black wheels because they finish my pepper white and black contrast look. Sure the black out mod can be pretty played out in the MINI community but I blacked it out for over a year now and I like it the way it is. Plus there's not many blacked out MINIs in my area.

MINI was just trying to keep the original Mini DNA in their cars, thus all the chrome. Chrome, however is not everybody's cup of tea. The blackout thing isn't really overplayed. The non conformists make it out to be. Heck, I plan on buying a brand new MINI in the next couple of years and leaving it bone stock, but as for right now, Lili is my monster. She's been murdered, and a murder victim that good looking is down right scary!!! BOO!!!
Heee,heeee,hahahahahahahahaha!!!!
Rim is part of a wheel. On a bicycle, it is the hoop that attaches to the spokes. The hub is on the other end of the spokes. The proper term to be used in this discussion is wheel.

Playing semantics aren't we? Though the technical definition of what you said may be correct, type in rim in google and see if you don't get a bazillion wheel ads.
The point of black rims is the awesome look, for one, and I'm pretty sure the vast majority of us also ended up with considerably lighter wheels than OEM. Since so many ditch the OEM for something lighter, why not get black if it looks better (which for a lot of our cars, it does)?

Hear ye, hear ye... I completely agree. When I bought my JCW, he came with Challenge wheels (which I really liked the look)
I wanted to paint them black since that was what I was looking for.
Somebody explain the logic in this to me....
The Challenge mini is for lack of a better expression, a race car for the street, right?
Wouldn't the first thing you do on a race car is put lighter wheels on it?
Instead, they put some almost 24lb wheel on their Challenge car... ridiculous. (I know they have to still keep warranty and protect themselves liabilty wise but geesh, 24lb wheels?)
Anyway, so I bought a set of OZ's cause they were only 14.x lbs a piece.
I'm thinking of powdercoating them gloss black instead of the satin they are now.

We got the point of what he was talking about.
You say pototoe, I say potatoe....
This is how definitions change. When a bazillion people use a word incorrectly it then becomes correct. People have misused the word forte (fort) for so long it now shows both pronunciations in the dictionary.

Well, actually, I wouldn't say that the word was used incorrectly as much as it was used as slang.
I think that's why so many slang words now show up in the dictionary.
Anyway, wheels/rims, point is, hmmmm, I've forgotten.
Back to the point of the post..... I'm about ready to take my OZ's off and powdercoat them gloss black instead of the satin black they are now.
Hey brake dust is a b***h........but it still looks good.
Now that is hot as hell, BIG thumbs up
When I finally save up enough $$, however, I'm planning on going as close to body color as I can (DS), I'm looking specifically at the anthracite R99s right now.
And to the opposite, what's up with chrome wheels? I don't get huge amounts of chrome.
As far as black wheels, they look great in some applications as part of an overall "look" for the car. In some competition circumstances, the lightweight wheel you want is only available in black.
personal opinion , black rims/wheels sounds just like racing to me, agresive and elegant, name a color that could be more elegant then black? that's it., simple as stylish, fashionable, elegant , sporty, what else, you name it...
