What's the point of black rims?!
I know there are a lot of owners with black rims; don't get offended but, I don't get the point of black rims.
You can't see the any of the rim's detail. Maybe if you have an all black car and wanted to do the whole "blackout" thing, i can see the point.
I've seen so many people spend a LOT of cash on black rims that you can't appreciate because, well, they are painted black.
Any one else?
No hating please.

Simple answer would be (hopefully) because they like the way they look

There are times when wheel rims NEED to be the focal point of the car.
Then there are times when the rims NEED NOT be the focal point of the car and more or less blend in with the color scheme. I also find that absent the visual definition of where the rim lip ends and the tire begins, the wheel appears to be larger. ( ie ) 16 inch rims can almost look like 18's.
I would say it depends on the color scheme of the MINI and how it is accessorized and that in most cases when done properly can be very appealing.

I sort of agree with the OP on black rims. I do somewhat like the black ones with a a silver rim though.
It may just be a generational thing. Way back when lots of cars had black rims & I longed for nice aluminum wheels. Now shiny silver aluminum rims are on everything from the lowliest Hyundai to the coolest Porsche. Black wheels are now unique. Given enough time the MINI vendors will be selling anti black out kits to convert the classic New MINI's to their original chrome look.

funny, i cant stand bling bling chrome or wheels that draw the eye away from the complete package. I will be installing black rims in the future as i think they will be a nice addition to my car. They -black rims- scream utility and depending on the stance and color of the car they add a nice lower squat focus that does not distract from the lines of the car.

All hail black... The new chrome!!!
Sure have & it goes along with different generations having different tastes.
I hated cleaning the brake dust off my wheels too. That's why I run ceramic brake pads.
Nothing against black rims, just don't feel the black out love.

Less tacky, does that mean the brake dust doesn't stick as well?
I've only seen a couple of MINI's with actual chrome rims. FWIW I like mine painted silver. In the future I may go with a set of Konig Rewinds in graphite with silver rim. Guess I'm moving over to the dark side. Hope they won't make my clown car look too mean.

We are lucky to have so many color combinations to choose from with our MINI's. I think black wheels work better with some of them, and silver wheels better with others. It's all about what you feel works for your own car, but in general, I think black wheels make the MINI look more aggressive, while drawing attention above the beltline, so if that's the look you want, go for it.
