Bridgestone RE960AS's or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus?

Hey Guys (and Girls),

Thinking about dumping my crappy runflats for some ultra high performance all seasons in the near future. Any opinions on which is better Bridgestone RE960AS's (only avail in 215/45/17) or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus (205/45/17)? Or is it too close to call? They seem very similar on almost every level. I drive a stock (at the moment ) '05 Mini Cooper S.

Cheers,

Mark.

Great choices. I believe that there will not be a wrong answer if you go with either of these tires. I had the 960's on my previous car and LOVED them. I haven't tried the Pilot Sports but hear nothing but great things about those tires as well. Good luck!

Thanks. I'm still torn. I guess the only deciding factor might be the slightly diff sizing. The Bridgestone is a 215 and the Michelin is a 205. Not sure how much diff this would make.

I have the Pilot Sport A/S Pluses on my R32 which is a good 1000 lbs more than my MINI. They have good traction, though in the wet I feel like the Star Specs on my MINI are good enough. Anyways, I highly recommend the Michelin's except for the two sidewall failures I've had on them within 5000 miles of purchasing. I blame it on the low profile 18's and the portly weight of the VW. Glad I bought discount tire's insurance plan on these!

You really can't go wrong with either tire though, they're both excellent.

Oh btw, that's weird sizing on the Bridgestone, it's gonna make it look like a 4x4 and mess up your speedo. If there's no 215/40, go with the stock sized Michelins!

You might want to check out the comparison tests on the Tire Rack web site...

215/45/17 is pretty common on Mini. 215/40 would make a larger fender gap.
You can get Pilot Sport AS and RE960 AS in 215/45/17.

@Blu_Pug...

yeah I checked the comparisons stuff, but going to check it out again before making my mind up... still somewhat torn, but leaning towards the Michelins.

broke record...
I was set on which ever of these were a better deal. $/warranty however alex suggested conti dws at some point and i think i'm going that way...quite a bit cheaper, same warranty and superior all season. i use snows but still, wet and getting caught out the dws should be good. just a thought. apparently they're a bit softer in the sidewall but not bad. the one rant on here about them being so soft was a guy with 16"s so that is kinda negated as a review for most of us

i've actually had both the 960as & psas (not the +) and they're both great.

Not all season but perform extremely well in the rain: Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's. Don't know what sizes they have but I'm running 215/40-18's. Fantastic tires and highly rated by Car and Driver.
