Rusting Rotors.

The edges of all four of my rotors have rust, wherever the brakes don't clamp down, it rusts, and looks really bad if i look at the top of the rotors.

Do all rotors rust?
Or should I buy better ones?
I just want them to stay looking decent.

I dont care if they are slotted, or anything, i just want some decent ones.
slotted and drilled would be more expensive then i care to pay.

someone said Brembo solid.
but I can't find Brembo solid ones that fit.

Thanks to anyone who helps! =]

ATE slotted rotors are coated and the edges do not rust on them. Only available in rears for my 08MCS but I really like them and hopefully fronts will be available soon. Very decent price too.

All rotors rust...they are cast Iron!!
My rears rotted/rusted out before they wore out.....
Some rotors rust faster than others...has to do with the carbon content/hardness of the cast iron. TSW rotors from what I hear rust fast (otherwise they are said to be great), and the OEM rust fast too! Most coatings, paint applied to the rorors are intented to keep them rust free for shipping....the coating will usually burn off in a few months!!

$150 for the fronts for Zimmerman's, $100 for the rear

The picture shows Brembo Blanks and an ATE rotor, but I would give them a call to see which manuf. supplies the OEM rotors.

Powerslot rotors with the zinc coating don't rust as much.

Carbon ceramic rotors don't rust, but they're extremely costly, (and probably not even available for MINIs)!

Is rusting rotors what made the terrible noise when I started driving my Mini and used the brakes after it had sat in the rain and snow for a week at the Manchester NH airport? (I see another NH mini driver on this thread, so they probably know what the conditions were like here last week). I figured it was same issue as my old Saabs and kept driving as it was 1 am and nothing I could do about it anyway.

Yep. That is the brake pads scraping off the surface rust.

YUP...I'm a pilot and my car sits for a week at a time at the airport....when I first start to drive...it is pretty loud for a stop or two. As soon as the rust is polished off, all is fine.
I have noticed the OEM rotors rust very quickly...aftermarket not quite so bad!! (TSW rotors I have heard might be an exception, but still a good product IMO!)
