Hello fellow enthusiasts. As I am in the process of waiting for my Mini, I am looking for some aftermarket wheels and tires. I tried the search function, but came up empty.

I wanted to get some 17x7 wheels with a 45mm offset. Also, I wanted to get some 215/45/17 tires. Because I do not plan on lowering the car, I wanted to know if that offset and tire combo will cause any rubbing issues.

TIA
Chris

According to all the experts here on NAM..you will have NO issues...with your suggested setup and no lowering.
If you do lower the car you will have a good possibility of rubbing w/ the above setup.

I personally have 215/45-17 Toyo Proxes T1S's, w/ 17 x 7 Tenzo RS5 Rims (+42 offset) ...and I have NO rubbing issues. My car is not lowered.

visit http://www.tirerack.com and ask for Alex

Peace,
D

i think 215/45/17 is a good choice in tire size for the 17's
without any lowering work.

my factory 17's came with 205/45/17's which have 9.23cm
sidewalls making the car 'barely acceptable' from a cosmetic
perspective on sidewall vs fender gap. with 215/45/17's
you get 9.68cm, so i think it will settle the look better.

during the winter i use 205/50/16's with 10.25cm sidewalls
and now, the car looks aggressive and lowered, even though
it's not. I like this look a lot.

if someone made excellent looking lightweight 16's, id
opt for 16's instead of the 17's. unfortunately most good
looking wheels these days are 17's and 18's. I got my
16's from Alex at the tirerack....they're probably the best
looking simple 5 spoke i could ever find in the States for
this car (imo). 16" SSR comps are great, i use 17's on my
wrx, but the 6spoke is not the kind of look im looking for
on the Mini.

If you do not lower the car then you may consider 17" rims up to 7.5" wide with offset from 37mm to 48mm and with 215/45-17 tires there should be no rubbing. Enjoy.

As for exact choice try talking to alex@tirerack after you check out the tirerack site.

I have ASA AR1 wheels with 42 offset and no rubbing problems. I changed tires to 215/45/17 Goodyear Eagle F1's and they drive great and look very nice in the fenderwell. Alex at Tirerack can fix you up and the Goodyear F1 price is very good for the quality of the tire.
