Factory tires need replacing at 14k?
Just took my car in for the 1 year low mileage oil change, and they say that the front tires are at the wear bars. The tires have been rotated once, so these have only been on the front for about 8k. Is it normal that they need replacing after 14k miles?? The wear seems pretty even across the tire so I don't think it's a problem of taking corners too fast, and I really don't burn rubber away from lights etc (much). I didn't really want to buy 2 new runflats this week Inspection is due at the end of April, so I'll have to replace them soon....

I've thought about it, but that would mean buying 4 new tires instead of 2 right now, and I'd have to deal with either keeping a donut in the car. I don't like the idea of just relying on Slime to get me home. I really don't mind the ride with runflats, so ditching them would really just be a cost saving more than anything.

I'm at 19K with th 16" contis and they are not really that worn, but just bad tires. They really had poor grip this past winter in even light snow. Plus I had a bad experience with the runflats and a pot hole. The sidewall is so hard that it cracked my rim and busted my headlight from the impact.
I didnt want to replace them until the tires were worn out, but they already cost me a $1000 lesson. Im replacing them ASAP with nonrunflats. now if I could only figure out what.

My car came with Pirelli runflats...the fronts lasted 20,000 miles (even with rotations). They wanted 260.00 a piece for them, so instead of spending over 500.00 on two tires, I bought a whole set of non runflats for almost the same amount. Much better ride, and if you drive on a flat runflat you'll have to replace the tire anyway.
I have a slime kit (you can get from Wal-mart) for right around 20.00, and it includes an air compressor. Dont think I would go back to the original set up for anything.

Just measured my stock Bridgestones at 7K. They're about 40% worn. I estimate 20K. I'm rotating them at 3K intervals and they are wearing flat and even, but they are wearing fast in my book. They indicate Treadwear 320, Traction A. I have no real problem with the tires except that they ride very harshly and they hum loudly and incessantly on the highway. I've found those traits to be common on all but the highline Pirelli RFs. I've not really found a problem with handling, but I seldom push my Justa to the limit anyway. Mine has a donut AND the RFs so I can change to non-RFs with no penalty. I'm debating whether to stick with the stock 195X55X16 or go to 205X50s, or perhaps even 215X55s. I'm leaning toward staying with the stock size right now because I feel like the added sidewall height will provide some protection for the rims on rough mountain roads, and the narrower tread footprint will help in fuel mileage (and let's face it, I can seldom use the full potential of even the 195s in an automatic justa so additional tread width or lower aspect ratio has little value for my needs except for the improved "looks").
