215/45/17 with 40mm offset

Would this set-up run a risk of rubbing on a lowered R53? Planning to go with Dunlop Direzza Star Specs.

I ran that size on 17x7.5 40mm offset wheels and it rubbed in the rear just a little until the plastic wore away. Those were Bridgestone RE-01R tires with TSW lowering springs.

Yes. Depends on how low, amount of rear negative camber, and wheel width.
I rubbed a little with 17x7" +38mm offset wheels, 215/40x17 tires, H&R springs, and -1.7 camber. Since you plan 45 series that adds a great chance of rubbing. However, the rub should be minor and the plastic wheel well liner and wheel arch can be trimmed to eliminate the rubbing.

I run 17x7.5" wheels with 215/45/17 Star Specs in the same offset as you (ET40). I'm on CROSS/JIC coilovers with roughly one finger gap with no rub. I run -2.0 camber in the front and -1.0 in the back.

Back on topic, I think it would depend on how much you are lowered. FWIW, I run the same size tire with a 38 offset but not lowered other than what the Koni FSD's do (about 1/4 inch), and I have no rubbing issues.

Doesn't Dunlop Star Specs come in a better MINI size of 215/40-17???

I'm on 215/45R17 Dunlop Direzza DZ101's on BBS RZ's (17"x7" ET37), R53 with H&R springs, and I rub in the rear at full compression (hard bumps, etc)

Looks like its just the plastic edge of the rear wheel arch, but it's still chewing up the shoulder/sidewall of the rear tires, so I'm getting the fenders rolled when I put on the CF hood in a week or two.

If I was stock height or on 205's, I'd be fine.

1074 will excede the GVAR for mini, just not as high in load as the stock tires. Watch where you put your wheels.

Star specs are on the smaller circumference end of the spectrum in each size from what I've read. I have and R56, and everyone told me that 215/45/17 wouldn't rub on NM Engineering springs. Guess what?

I'd definitely go 215/40. I just placed an order for 16" feathers and 205/50/16 because of the rough ride and rubbing... But like I said, I'm in an R56.
