Alex,

I currently have the 16" MINI v-spokes and I'm looking for suitable all-season tires (regular / non run-flat preferred). I have been using the Falken Azenis and AVS ES100s (205/50 R16), but I would like something more all-season in flavor.

Thanks for advice in advance,

Dave

im using pirelli p6 fourseasons 205/50/16 i bought from alex a couple of
months ago. good wet/dry traction and will work better in snow than your ES100's
and falkins.

it's a HR rated tire and ive been driving spiritedly since i put it on in Oct.
not a bad tire, just keep it pressured up 35lbs or more if you carry passengers.

Dave, what size Azenis did you use on the V-spokes, also 205/50?
I've been racking my brain about how to improve my tire/rubber setup (currently have 16" V-spokes with stock Dunlop SP5000 RFs) while keeping cost down. Am considering the Monza NZO / Azenis combo from Webb, but was also looking at other options including the much more expensive Centerline RPM with Yokos, Volk TE-37 with ????, and others, but I keep forgetting that I do like the stock V-spoke look, and that the stock V-spokes can take non-RF tires, so I should look at that option some more. I don't have to deal with snow etc.... in TX, so the Yokos may be fine.

How do you rate the Azenis vs the Yokos on the 16" V-spokes, in terms of everyday vs track driveability, wet and dry traction as well as treadwear and comfort?

How does the ride of these two respectively compare to the stock RFs?

Any thoughts and helpful comments would be appreciated!

TIA!
Markus

Falken Azenis: 215/45/16

The Azenis are grippier, but they also aren't as good as the ES100's in the rain. Cost wise the Azenis run about $105 a copy, versus $75 for the ES100s. If you get a lot of rain, get the ES100s, otherwise, I'd get the Falkens.

Ride quality wise, I'd say they are both an improvement over the run-flats. One to the other, the Azenis are slightly stiffer (stiffer sidewalls), but they are both an improvement over the RF.

thanks guys. I'll have to make a decision in the next couple weeks. I intend to drive back to Colorado for Christmas and my Azenis need to be replaced (i.e. not enough tread for rain, on a tire never intended for snow).

The Falken ZE-512 are what I use and are the #1 rated CR A/S tire "performance" category.

Alex,

Thanks for the recommendation. I ordered the 205/50 R16's from the Tire Rack (listed you as the sales contact). The tires showed up on Monday and I had them installed on Tuesday.

Now here's where things get interesting. Previously I had the 215/45 falkens and now I have the 205/50 BF GoodRich tires. Before my MINI scrapped coming out of the driveway at my apartment. Now, there's no scraping (good thing). I check the tires and they are all running 33 psi, similar to what I had in the Azenis.

45% of 215 = 97
50% of 205 = 102.5

I wouldn't have thought that that minor of a change in the sidewall would have made that big of a difference. I mean, the Azenis have a reputation for having a stiff sidewall, so I would have thought that the distance between the wheel and the ground would have been about the same (less flex with the stiffer falken sidewall).

Anyhow, I'm quite happy with the tires and looking forward to driving back to Colorado and doing some snowboarding over the holidays.

Thanks again,
Dave

in my honest opinion, i think the MCS runs better with 16's than 17's.

added bonus, a 16" wheel will always be lighter than its 17" counterpart, same with 16" tires.

I only wish we could run 15's in SCCA stock classes My only lament with the S.
