Front wider than the rear?

I have a question if someone could answer it before tomorrow afternoon. It looks like the front stance is wider than the rear. Is this just an illusion or is the front really wider than the rear? Because I'll be placing the order for rims and I'm not sure if I want to order them 15x10 in the front & 15x10.25 in the rear. Please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks in advance!

It's because of all your rear camber.

Actually a lot of cars do not have the same track front and rear. I know one, ( French) that did not have the same wheelbase right to left! Why? have to ask the designer. It used to be because that was the parts they had on hand.

Bean is right.
For gen 1 MINIs, front track = 57.4 inches and rear track = 57.7 inches (1458mm front, 1466mm rear with 15" wheels).
Actually, it varies a little, depending on the wheels.
15" oem wheels have 45mm offset, 16" and 17" have 48mm (track - 1452f/1460r), and 18" has 52mm (track = 1444f/1452r).

Thanks guys! I'm not sure if I should powdercoat the new rims coming in next month. Paying $1,600 would be a waste if I just spray them, but I'm not sure if it will match more. The new ones are Weld Racing Magnum Series with 4x100 bolt patterns. It comes in Gold+Chrome so I'm not sure if I should spray the gold over with yellow to match the car. Kinda' ruining expensive rims if I do that. Unless they'll match better like I said. What do you think? I'm getting these because all four diamonds are slightly warped, and twice the weight of the weld's. I need to know before they mount the tires on so it'll be easier to spray them Yellow+White-Lips.

Just FYI, I'm sure you already know but those wheels aren't legal to run on the street. Not that a cop is really that likely to pull you over and check if your wheels are DOT approved.

However in certain circumstances it might also cause insurance issues. Might want to check it out, last thing you want to do is give an insurance company a loophole to refuse you coverage when you actually need it.

A 225 on a 7! OK, you can mount it, but it won't provide much grip. The sidewalls need support UNDER them. You should go for an 7.5 at least. Look at the tire specs. The tire is designed for the rim they use to measure section width. In this case, 7.5. 8 would give you better steering response and contact patch control under cornering.

Magnum series are NOT designed for street use or high cornering. I would not have used them for a Mini on the street. Strip, yea, good stuff. Tap a curb, and it is likely to bend like a pop can. Bad pot hole? maybe too.
Pro's or drag? Pros you won't have to worry about brake dust!

I think you have the look you want.

In general each car is designed with a certain track to the width of the front and rear axles. This is the distance on the outside of each wheel. Sometimes it is less in the front, or the back or equal. For the MINI which is front wheel drive there is no great advantage to make the rear wheel and tire excessively wide like you might do with a car that has power to the rear wheels.

The track of any axle can be made wider or less so by adjusting the wheel width and offset. You can make it wider with a spacer. The MINI has the same sized wheel and offset for front and back but the fenders may not be exactly the same so that a wheel that looks wider in the front like yours is because the wheel well area is a little smaller than the rear or the wheel offset you have makes the wheel sit farther outside.

For 10" wheels on the MINI it's common to use fender flares which allow covering to the tires so that mud and dirt/rocks do not get kicked up and hit things around you or your own fenders.

In your case you have put much more narrow tires on an extra wide rim for the appearance. This does allow more clearance and less chance for rubbing but there is some wheel gap.

From a purely performance view, wide wheels are heavy and usually result in slower acceleration, longer brake distances, less nimble handling and usually higher cost. Tires to be their best need to be suitable and fit the rim width or you will be using only a portion of the tread or in your case maybe even overusing what little tire you have as the forces on a wide rim may be different than a rim say 8" wide which is suitable for a 225mm tire- kinda like running in high heels.

If the MINI is for show use or you do only street driving and usually take it easy then it can be OK. If you do drive aggresively then just be careful when you turn quickly as traction may be a little less from your wheel tire combo.

In any event you have a unique MINI.
