TPMS rebuild with new tires?

Is there any reason I need to do this? Seems like 40$ of b.s to me. The tire guys are going to ask as I know how they are. That and extra warranty crap.

If your moving the sensors, yes. If not - and you don't have a leak, then no.

BTW you can get the rebuild kits $24 delivered for all 4 wheels if you need them, call me.

Gotcha. Thanks for the advice. Installers are big on Nickles and dimes. Will do.

What's involved in "rebuilding" the TPMS sensors? What is there to rebuild? I thought it was just a wireless electronic sensor attached to the inside of the rim via the valve stem.....

I'm with this guy, don't know what you could re-build on them...

I dunno what 're-built' means but then again I never understood why new stems was an automatic anytime I bought tires either.

taking a quick look at the tire-rack recommended installers near me I see TPMS service changes ranging from nothing to $15 per wheel . . . looking at per wheel mounting cost it appears the mounting was about $10 more where the TPMS was 'free' . .

So if the charge is $40 for 4 wheels that appears to be about average ... use the tirerack site for a sampling of installers in your area

$40 for one wheel I'd run away . . .

That is a hole lotta $$$ for 4 2$ batteries....
But if the battery dies, and you need to get the tire unmounted, and remounted, might be a good idea. I'm guessing if you go through tires fast enough (like 2 years), then you could do it every other set....

Batteries! I forgot about batteries......

I don't remember reading anything in the manual about the change interval for the batteries, now my curiosity is up so I'll have to go look!

Changing the batteries is not going to happen.. The units are sealed and not serviceable in any way. The may recenter the units or replace the valve stems but if they are mounted properly in the 1st place then there is not need for any type of maintenance unless the tire shop damages them. If you get a bad reading sensor it needs to be replaced and that is the bottom line.

Here is what it looks like from the top. The bottom is sealed with epoxy.
