New Wheels and Tires

I have been following this forum since I brought home my 2008 MINI Cooper S almost 2 years ago. In that time there have been numerous people who have shared their opinion on the horrors of run-flats. I decided that I would wait until my set of run-flats needed to be replaced and I would consider getting regular tires. I had Michellin Pilot Exalto PE2's installed on my Mini last week and it is like I just bought a new car. The ride and noise levels are dramatically better. I have yet to real push the car in the corners, but so far it seems better than the run-flats as well. For anyone considering dropping the run-flats. DO IT!

Sweeeet.... Michelins are awesome tires.

Was out with a friend few weeks back who still sports the Pirelli Eufori RF tires on S lites....the sound was reminiscent to that of snow tires.

I just put them on my JCW

I put 215/45/17's on Exalto PE's on my 2009 JCW. I really like the looks of them and I'm going to try to get out and see how they feel this weekend. I got my slime and pump and they fit in the cubby hole under the mat where the jack and tools used to go.

Look good and even though I can't talk much wheel gap kills. Even more so now that your wheels stick out. BTW def dig the retro look of them.

I don't know how I got 37k from my original Continental runflats on lousy NYC roads but I did - well, I kept the inflation right and memorized every pothole on my commute. Can't wait to switch to regular tires though - can't take the jolts anymore. I want it all - smoother riding, great handling, all season tires for bad roads. Any suggestions for tires and a good shop in the NYC area? 2007 Cooper S coupe. Many thanks.

Would you like more sporty handling or more quiet and smooth tires? Whats your local zipcode?

Hey, same here.

Everything from the BQE/Belt Parkway through 287 or the Sawmill is utter hell. I can't avoid the awful, awful road conditions, even if I've done the same.

Seems like new potholes show up weekly...

Runflats are also a LOT heavier than regular tires...
Getting rid of that rotating mass will allow you to have better acceleration in addition to everything else...

Also, I have never run with a spare in any of my cars. I just have good roadside assistance... And a full tire warranty from discount tire that will replace the tires in the event they can't be fixed...

Same weight as my Dunlops were.

My 205/45/17 rinflat Dunlop Sports were 22 pounds

My 215/45/17 Michelin Exalta PE2's are 22 pounds

If I would have bought Michelin 205/45/17 Exaltas they are only 20 pounds.

I did not want tires heavier then what came on my car so I did my research.
