Most durable tires for 17” Cooper S wheels
Hi all,
I'm hoping for your input on new tires for our 2008 Cooper S Hardtop (17" wheels). My wife is driving this car a lot (she has a hell of a commute) so I'm looking for a dureable, reasonably priced tire. We have winter tires for the snowy months so it could but wouldn't need to be an all-season tire. Would consider runflats but don't have to be.
Also, our MA has sold us on the tire insurance (which has paid off already since we needed 2 new runflats over the last 12 months) so any reason I should get OEM tires? Would it be easier to get a new tire if need be since an OEM tire?
Thanks,
Dertef

Tire insurance? How does that work- do you buy tires from a source that insures it?
No need to go with runflat tires unless you want them but with a long commute you might need fix a flat or a compact spare off a Honda.
If non runflats then some long wearing tires OK for the Cooper S
205/45-17 size
Continental ExtremeContact DWS (ultra HP All Season tire)
540 treadwear $107 each but on backorder at Tirerack.com (see alex at ext 294)
Or in 215/45-17 $108 each and is in stock now. slightly tall but will fit your stock wheels and MINI with stock suspension OK.
Yokohama AVID ENVigor (high Perf All Season tire)
560 treadwear $103 each in stock
In 215/45-17 $99 each

Thanks for the info.
Yeah, tire and rim protection. Bought it from the dealer (they have a vendor) though I know MINI Financial Services offers it as well. They cover all flats or accidental damages to rims. Had a big nail in runflats on two occasions and just took the car back to the dealer. They put on a new tire (runflats couldn't be fixed) and it also covers labor. So overall it was a good deal for me since replacing two Dunlop runflat tires would have been more expensive than the insurance.
