Rim question

The wheels I want to get are 17x7 et38. I now have coilovers. Will this wheel pose a problem in that offset? What will be the best size tire? Will I need to get spacers? Thanks for any help

How low is your ride height vs stock

Which MINI do you have?

et 38 means your wheels will stick out 14mm more than stock wheels.

If you have stock suspension then you won't rub but if you are lowered and you run tires that are a bit tall like 215/45-17 then there is a chance of rubbing in the rears against the plastic wheel arches. You can reduce this tendency you adjusting rear camber to more negative or by trimming the rear wheel arch inner plastic a little.

It really depends how much you lower your MINI. Drop of less than one inch may be OK but 1.5" drop will likely rub. Or rub under full load of four people in your car.

For best clearance use stock sized tires-
205/45-17
For a little more clearance use-
215/40-17

You do not need spacers since that would only move the wheel farther outside the wheel wells and make the problems worse.

+1 on what minihune said.

I had 2003 MCS R53 with 17x7 et 38 wheels, 215/40 tires, and H&R springs (lowered about 1") and I had slight rubbing in the rear when the rear was loaded. I had to trim the plastic wheel arch and the wheel well liner.

i just happened to come across this thread even though we exchanged PMs lol

Ill post anyway in case someone searches later.

In my opinion its a perfect fit.

I run 17x7.5 et38 with 205/45/17s and have never really had any rub except on some very extreme instances (didnt even see a speed hump in the road"

Ive had the car pretty much slammed on that setup too. Now with the extra 1/2" of rim it could either help or hurt, i dunno... i guess it could stretch the tire to a slightly smaller dia, or pull it towards the areas that could rub more....

They are also the stock Conti runflats... they dont have the big ol rim protectors and aggressive edge tread that many tires do, so Id say that they are of the smaller variety, as tire sizes vary by maker.

and a pic because im a ***** lol

i almost want a et35..
