noob question going from 17" to 16" wheels

I have an 07 "S". The factory tires are 205/45/17. I am looking to get some winter/all season tires. There seems to be a much bigger selection of tires out there ( in the for sale section of this forum ) in 16".

I have a few questions.

1. will there be any issue with tire fit?

2. is there a chart around telling you what year wheels are compatible with certain year MINI's?

3. Other than adjusting for the speedo being off, is there anything else I would need to know?

1. No. 16" is OK.
2. Go to tirerack. If you have questions talk to Alex at Extention 294
3. Check for TPMS on your current wheels. You may need to get a set for your winter wheels or just drive them without TPMS and get a light on your dash.

You can go to tirerack.com and enter your year and model of MINI.
Only issue is your front brake caliper size as the larger ones might have some trouble with certain 16" wheels.

Tirerack will show which wheels in 16" or larger are compatible with your MINI and you can choose a tire that fits the wheel and is close to stock tire diameter of about 24.2 to 24.4".
