Tire Rack to Canada?

I am shopping around for my summer tires to see what my best options are, etc. As an example I'm curious about the Yokohama S-Drives. In town I was quoted as $974 installed. This seemed pretty expensive considering TireRack offers this tire in the same size at around $100 ($102 I think?)

It would cost $90 to have them mounted and balanced locally, and $114 to ship. This comes to just over $600 before taxes.

My question is to any Canadians that have ordered tires online from TireRack or other US retailers: How much was the duty on a set of tires? What did it end up costing you at the end of the day?

I have ordered often from Tire Rack, back in the day you had to estimate the additional fees for duty, brokerage, and GST.
Now they include all fees, refer to the bottom of the page after adding to cart and entering the postal code to ship to.
All you have to consider is the dollar exchange, and these days, that's not a bad thing.

Thanks for the reply, I must have just glazed over it the first time! That's really convenient, looks like I will save a fortune this way.

If you are planning a trip to the US, have them shipped there for pickup and you'll save a bit. Particularly on brokerage fees and depending on the customs officer they may not charge you taxes or duties.

If you're in Canada, don't get the S.Drives. The pricing on S.Drives is ridiculous. At least double the US cost. I got the Avid Envigors. Since they are a new tire, they were priced when the Canadian dollar was near par with the US dollar. The AE's are also made in the US so NAFTA kicks in. Pricing is much closer to the US price.

There is no duty on US made tires, but you need to pay HST/GST or whatever it is in your province. You also need to have them installed and tireshops usually charge more for install than if you bought the tires from them. If a courier is used for shipping, you will also pay for customs brokerage fees.

I'm not sure if DiscountTire has changed their policy, but they used to ship to Canada for free.

I've only heard pretty good things about Tirerack service and shipping to Canada so give Alex a call.
