Konig Feather vs Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 vs OZ ultraleggera

I have started to look for new wheels for this summer and have been torn between these 3 wheels

Konig feather : weight 16.8 lbs
Team Dynamics : Weight 13.45 lbs
Oz Ultraleggera : weight ???

All wheels will be black

What do you think ?

PS i know the OZ are more expensive than the other wheels mentioned but I like them the most, the only ick is the price

Are you referring to 17" wheels?
  • 17x7 Ultraleggra weighs They are Low Pressure Cast/Shot Peened and made in Italy
  • 17x7 Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 weighs 17.3 lbs., cast and heat treated (according to outmotoring) and I believe they are made in the UK
  • The Feather's are gravity cast and made in China

The OZ Alleggerita HLT is 14.2 pounds

The HLT wheels are Low Pressure Cast and Shot Peened. They are made in Italy.

Go to the Tire Rack site for more information on any wheel you can think of.They are a wealth of information on Wheels, Prices and Tires.

What is your goal? If for racing, go with the OZs. If for looks, the Feathers are a decent wheel at a good price.

Have you considered the OZ Alleggerita HLT's? Depending on the color they weigh in at about 14.2lbs per wheel in 17" spec according to tirerack.com
These are on my wish list.

Anyone know off hand what the best/preferred casting method is for racing/autox?

IMO, if you have the potential of driving over large bumps or potholes, I'd go with the Ultraleggeras.

See this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-bent-rim.html

For sure I don't "plan" on hitting any potholes but realistically I probably will at least a couple of really bad ones !!!
Road here in Montreal are desasterious for enormous potholes.

Does anyone know a place where I can find OZ for not too expensive?

Someone had a set of TD Pro Race 1s and they cracked on the track. Might want to beware. I just bought the 1.2s.

Hi mgrant.

Does anyone know a place where I can find OZ for not too expensive?

Tire Rack sells them.

They are also on my "Wish List"

They are a little expensive but you get what you pay for.

Four methods for making wheels are cast, low pressure cast, high pressure cast and forged. The higher the cast method the better the wheel. It fills in all "air pockets" in the mold and the wheel is more solid. Typically high pressure cast wheels are more expensive although interestingly enough Tire Rack sells high pressure cast Elbrus wheels with a 3 year warranty very inexpensively. I bought these for my sons car and they are great. The OZ in comparison are low pressure cast and have a two year warranty. Cost comparison on a similar style.....Elbrus I05 16 inch $99.00 the OZ's are $203.00. There is a potential difference in testing as OZ uses a European test standard that perhaps Elbrus doesn't doesn't use for example. Konig too wouldn't certify to that standard. But, that adds cost and to the final verdict: is one better than the other....there are alot of happy Elbrus and Konig customers out there. Check out the Konig website too for other choices. I admit not knowing much about Team Dynamics although Out Motoring sells them and info is probably readily available. Hope this helps you.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but how does one know what type of casting was used when looking at a wheel?

Hi Black Camden

Go to the Tirerack site on wheels.

All of the information regarding the wheels they sell is posted with the wheels. Weight, Price, How manufactured. Where made.

Tire Rack seems to sell all Manufacturers wheels at a very good price. You can price out the wheels you want with shipping included.

I still want the alleggerita HLT wheels for my JCW but just can't seem to get enough $$$$ together to spend on them right now.

I would say the Konigs are of lesser manufacturing quality. I would go OZ then TD.

I'm always evaluate spending too much money for the need or situation. If you are just cruising and want looks whats wrong with the Konigs? If you are keeping the car for only a couple of years again buy Konigs. Konig is really middle of the road not and not at the cheap end of wheels. I like OZ and wouldn't mind have them but spending the money.....would be a tough decision for me.

Thx for all the info. I have looked at the price of the OZ and they are really expensive plus adding tires will probably blow my budget.

I like amberback mentioned, someone broke a TD wheel while at the track !

I plan on starting tracking so should I avoid TD ? Also want is the main difference between the 1.2 pro race and the 1 pro race (TD)

one last question

finally decided, im going with the TD

OZ are too expensive for me right now and Konig as few mentionned probably would be a good choice for autox

still have one question though : does anyone know the main differences between the TD 1 Pro-Race and the TD 1.2 ????

Thank for all your opinions
