Wellzy, MM and Slinger all have valid points and your all right in certain situations. If the OP is looking for "one pad" to do it all, the XP8 would be the way to go, but not ideal in any of the 3 situations here. 1521 is great for street and good for autox. The AX6 is good for the street (GREAT stopping power but noisy and DUSTY!!!) and GREAT at autox. Wellzy and I have run more successfully at auotx on the AX6 than 1521 or XP8 (the XP8 was VERY close though). The XP8 is good for street (even when cold) and good for autox, but GREAT at the track. However, there are more ideal pads for the track, and as Wellzy stated earlier, the Xp12/XP10 combo for R comps would be very good, but the XP16/XP10 combo may be better depending on how aggressive the driver is or wants to be. If going to the track on street performance tires, the XP10/XP8 combo would be the way to go, the other set up's would be too strong for the tires. Those track combo's will also work well on the street, even when cold, but there are the trade off's of dust and noise, and YES, the XP10's and XP12's may sound like a city bus at times on the street. The hard part is being honest with yourself and your seller/dealer when choosing track pads. Are you TRULY pushing the car and getting the maximum out of it? Are you going 80%, 60%? If inexperienced and a little scared, that is normal. Go with a less aggressive set up, work up your confidence and speed and when your lap times start to get with a few seconds of SSB Mini lap times at that track, you know it's time to step up your compound choice as well. Thanks for all of the Carbotech "bumps" on this thread guys. We appreciate it. Keep Motoring and have fun at the track!---Mike Jr.

The op is a very experienced racer who wants a dedicated race pad for his dedicated race car, which will never see the street. All this talk about xp8 for the street, noise in xp10, scared, inexperienced, etc is interesting but...

Good novice but misplaced advise.

So the answer to his question is Carbotech, xp16.

He owns and runs his own race team and the thread is given him advise about autox and not being too scared driving at 60 percent brakes and why xp8 can be driven on the street. What do you think?

Sorry not a mind reader, the first post did not say any thing about hard core tracking. Had I knew that I would of brought mike in sooner.

As for the xp8 I was just trying to inform about the possibility for some that the 8's can be used as an all round pads. This was brought on by the flowing post. Also I give advice to call mike or Danny to get the straight answer.

No issue. Some of us have been around a lot and know a little history from previous threads.

There are many of us that can be considered track maniacs as well. Mikes post was kind of a turn off for me. Not good for an ardent user and recommender of his products.

Slinger- I am genuinely interested in why my post was a turn off for you. Looking back at the original post, I would have to ask several questions to this customer if he had emailed or called me. Is this a track day or full on racing? What tires? What tracks? Are you looking for the best overall braking or longevity? Is rotor wear important (he may have expensive rotors and would rather wear pads at a faster rate than the rotor)? XP16 is a good start, but what if prefers a pad with less bite? Does he want a more linear torque curve and a pad that will outlast the XP12, the new RP2? We have another new compound, which this is as good a place to let you guys know as any, the XP20. You may interested in the XP20 as well. What brake pads has he tried in the past and what did he like and dis-like about those pads? Obviously, you know this guy, but that doesn't mean we do. I have found that to just straight out tell a person they want a specific compound and that's it, isn't enough. They want info, the "why's and why not's", and that is what we are hear for. In your case for example, what pads did you start out with? What made you change to other, more aggressive pads? Are you running the XP16's, now, and if so, would you be interested in the XP20's or even the RP2's. I am in no way trying to be a smart-alec here, and I know that you know your stuff when it comes to track pads. I am just explaining why I put all of the information in my original post. It was by no means a shot at anyone, or a criticism of anyone, and after reading all of the other posts in this thread, I felt I needed to put all of the information out there that I could. I apologize if I offended you, there was no intent for that. Feel free to email me directly if you would like at jr@ctbrakes.com and we can talk about potential set-up's for your car at the track that may be better than what your currently doing, or we can confirm that you do indeed have the best set-up possible. Thanks- Mike Jr.

A couple of reasons perhaps perceived:

It is not good to recommend track pads to people who use it on the street that are never used to their full potential. Sounds a little bait and switch to me.

This stuff about braking at 60 percent etc, really talks down to some audiences. Know your audience before you write stuff like that especially for a thread about race pads.

For people like us who use 5-8 sets of your front per year, it seems a little of a miss.

Let's take this off the thread and I can write to you. I am not in need of any real help on brake pads right now though. But I would like to learn as much as I can from other racing/track people.

I am by far no racer. I was planning on running EBC greens pads as they are improved from stock and supposedly make less brake dust then oem. Should I steer clear of these? I would find Carbo's a little over kill for the type of driving I do. My goal are quiet, dustless pads that are an improvement over oem.

If you are asking me, I am still a Carbotech fan and would recommend ct1521 over EBC green. Both street pads, low dust and the ct just has fantastic brake modulation. I run different versions of CT in all my cars.

Thank you all for the kind (and free) advice!

We are indeed a race team. I am looking to see what`s out there to make the better choice so we can play with balance between front and rear axles. What's the answer? I don't know, but we will test and figure out what works best for us.

Since the question was for the rear axle, we will most likely run stock OE pads to start with. That's right. OE. If we need more rear bite, we will then increase to a more agressive compound until we find the right mix for the ABS system to be happy with. That's how we do it.

Now I know this thread can be helpful to more people with different needs and applications. Feel free to continue posting and trying to help and, occasionally, entertain each other!

Hey Slinger, your absolutely right and hit it right on the head. Thanks for pointing that out to me, I did not realize it could be perceived that way, but it definitely can be. Sorry about that.

Thanks again! You da' man!

Remember; green left, green right, blue up and black in the middle and all will be good! Have a great weekend.

Jr.
