R56 race pads
#26
Wellzy, MM and Slinger all have valid points and your all right in certain situations. If the OP is looking for "one pad" to do it all, the XP8 would be the way to go, but not ideal in any of the 3 situations here. 1521 is great for street and good for autox. The AX6 is good for the street (GREAT stopping power but noisy and DUSTY!!!) and GREAT at autox. Wellzy and I have run more successfully at auotx on the AX6 than 1521 or XP8 (the XP8 was VERY close though). The XP8 is good for street (even when cold) and good for autox, but GREAT at the track. However, there are more ideal pads for the track, and as Wellzy stated earlier, the Xp12/XP10 combo for R comps would be very good, but the XP16/XP10 combo may be better depending on how aggressive the driver is or wants to be. If going to the track on street performance tires, the XP10/XP8 combo would be the way to go, the other set up's would be too strong for the tires. Those track combo's will also work well on the street, even when cold, but there are the trade off's of dust and noise, and YES, the XP10's and XP12's may sound like a city bus at times on the street. The hard part is being honest with yourself and your seller/dealer when choosing track pads. Are you TRULY pushing the car and getting the maximum out of it? Are you going 80%, 60%? If inexperienced and a little scared, that is normal. Go with a less aggressive set up, work up your confidence and speed and when your lap times start to get with a few seconds of SSB Mini lap times at that track, you know it's time to step up your compound choice as well. Thanks for all of the Carbotech "bumps" on this thread guys. We appreciate it. Keep Motoring and have fun at the track!---Mike Jr.

The op is a very experienced racer who wants a dedicated race pad for his dedicated race car, which will never see the street. All this talk about xp8 for the street, noise in xp10, scared, inexperienced, etc is interesting but...
Good novice but misplaced advise.
So the answer to his question is Carbotech, xp16.

Sorry not a mind reader, the first post did not say any thing about hard core tracking. Had I knew that I would of brought mike in sooner.
As for the xp8 I was just trying to inform about the possibility for some that the 8's can be used as an all round pads. This was brought on by the flowing post. Also I give advice to call mike or Danny to get the straight answer.

A couple of reasons perhaps perceived:
It is not good to recommend track pads to people who use it on the street that are never used to their full potential. Sounds a little bait and switch to me.
This stuff about braking at 60 percent etc, really talks down to some audiences. Know your audience before you write stuff like that especially for a thread about race pads.
For people like us who use 5-8 sets of your front per year, it seems a little of a miss.
Let's take this off the thread and I can write to you. I am not in need of any real help on brake pads right now though. But I would like to learn as much as I can from other racing/track people.

I am by far no racer. I was planning on running EBC greens pads as they are improved from stock and supposedly make less brake dust then oem. Should I steer clear of these? I would find Carbo's a little over kill for the type of driving I do. My goal are quiet, dustless pads that are an improvement over oem.

Thank you all for the kind (and free) advice!
We are indeed a race team. I am looking to see what`s out there to make the better choice so we can play with balance between front and rear axles. What's the answer? I don't know, but we will test and figure out what works best for us.
Since the question was for the rear axle, we will most likely run stock OE pads to start with. That's right. OE. If we need more rear bite, we will then increase to a more agressive compound until we find the right mix for the ABS system to be happy with. That's how we do it.
Now I know this thread can be helpful to more people with different needs and applications. Feel free to continue posting and trying to help and, occasionally, entertain each other!

Thanks again! You da' man!
Remember; green left, green right, blue up and black in the middle and all will be good! Have a great weekend.
