How long can tires be "stored"?
#1
I recently purchased my 04 MCS which came with the 17" Runflats. The lease will be up in 3 years so I have to return the MCS in "original" condition. I was either planning on (1) removing the runflats (store them if possible) and getting better 17" tires or (2) removing the 17s all together (store them) and purchasing some R84s with some better rubber. I'll be trying my hand at autocross this year (G-stock) and I didn't want to break the bank. That is why I'm thinking R84s with Kumhos. I used to store my motorcycle tires off the rim, however not for very long. Would it be better to just use my 17s or purchase a used set of R84s and store my rim/tire combo? Thanks in advance!

I was wondering about the same thing...how long can a tire be stored? I have an extra set of 15" rims with tires on them as a "back-up" set. When my 16" runflats need replacing (probably in 36K miles or so)...I'm going to use the 15" non-runflats (I have a MC so I have a spare). But it could very well be 3 years before I need to replace the tires and use the 15"s. I'm assuming they'll last in storage that long, or longer...
Thing is, should they be stored on the rim, fully inflated to proper PSI? That's the way I have my 15s stored...in the garage (very cool place), on the rims, at 30 PSI, and far from moisture sources.

a basment is a good place to store them. i have stored tires for years at a time. make sure they are clean and free from tire dressing. check the air pressure to be correct for the tire and stack them with cardbord between them. check them every so offten to make sure the aire pressure is correct and you should be fine. good luck

>>cool and dry- and out of sunlight. Keep them off cold concrete directly.
that reminds me... HomeDepot has particle boards pre-cut in a circle
about the size of a tire. It's about 4 inches larger diameter than the
205/45/17's.
