Why TireRack?
#1
Hi.
I don't want to be an *** or anything so don't take this the wrong way. I'm going to be getting a set of 18's for my MCS and am considering all the options right now. This site and others have had a tire rack mantra since day one... but I've been looking around. I guess I need to know why I should go with tire rack vs. another outlet.
So far my pros vs. cons are:
Pros+
Great Service
Good Reputation
Decent R&D
Cons+
Not a lot of selection/styles
High(er) prices
Lack of package deals
Anyone care to convince me? It seems like wheelsnext.com among other websites and the local shops have hot looking wheel/tire sets for my mini in the 800 range. Are they total crap wheels while TR only sells good ones? I'm looking at the ADR SZ1 right now for my pepper white MCS.
Feedback would be great! Thanks!

ADRs are cheap cast knockoffs of popular wheels, they're no better than Konig or Katana. With that said, for the price they're hard to beat. Tire Rack has some cheapie wheels too that look nice and are inexpensive, namely the ASA brand. They also carry reputable companies like SSR, BBS and O.Z.

Tire Rack sells nothing but top-quality products. You can take your chances with Brand X and its' build quality. Tire Rack has benchmark pricing - you'll find that all local tire shops use Tire Rack as their value-conscious and reliable source for product. Not over-priced one bit. My purchase experiences with Tire Rack have been industry leading; professional staff, immediate delivery, excellent customer service. There's a reason Tire Rack is the best.

ive only came across one wheelset that didn't fit my car out of 7-8 sets
ive purchased over the years. They took it back and gave me a full
refund as they took responsibility for their mistake.
ADR's are not tirerack-worthy wheels, imo. (not that I'm putting down
ADR wheels..but ive had a set before and it was cheep and paint chipped
too easily) the wheels tirerack sells are higher quality and much more
durable for long term use.
overall, the convenience and confidence factor is probably the #1 reason
why i keep buying from the tirerack. their mount/balance has been perfect
each time.

Why use Tire Rack? Great selection, great customer service, good pricing, no sales tax, great reviews and user comments on their website. I have purchased 3 sets of tires from the Tire Rack in the last 12 months for my 3 cars. The local tire store that the Tire Rack recommended (and I had the tires dropped shipped to), added a lot to the whole equation as well. You can always find someone out there that will sell at a lower price, but it is the combination of all the above for true value.

I recently purchased the ASA AR1 wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1's from Tirerack. I looked at the cheaper online packages you referred to. However, I felt that the wheels are not as good quality wise as the ASA's sold by Tirerack. The price on the Goodyear Eagles was very competitive. They arrived quickly, already mounted and balanced (at no extra charge) with hub rings and lug nuts. I have purchased several sets of tires from Tirerack before and have always been pleased. I received a defective tire for my M3 a couple years ago and Tirerack sent a replacement, no questions asked and paid for the return shipment of the defective tire, outstanding customer service!. I highly recommend them and don't think you can really beat their price for comparable products.
They also will give you an honest answer in terms of fitment. I called a couple of other wheel shops who said that certain wheels will fit without admitting that while they fit, they will rub!

My history with TireRack.com:
1997: Purchased winter Tire/rim/hubcap combo for Volvo. No problems
1998: Purchased winter Tire/rim/hubcap combo for VW. No problems.
2002: Purchased winter Tire/rim/hubcap combo for MINI. Didn't fit front.
They sent replacements and UPS stickers and packing material to return.
2003: Purchased winter rubber replacement for Volvo. No problems.
So, that's all I have to say abot TireRack.

I'm shocked that I bought a tire package online. I'm the kind of guy who has always driven up to the dealer, ordered wheels/tires, and driven off.
I bought my Pontiac snows from my Pontiac dealer, Volvo snows and wheels from Volvo dealer.
I figured that 100 miles from the nearest MINI dealer it would cost me a day, more money, and probably more limited selection. I had seen Alex's detailed responses to questions on the forum and decided to try it. Now I'm hooked.
If there is no package that suits you ask him to put one together. You won't be disappointed.
Another plus: I enjoy NAM and they sponsor it. So they support my learning/entertainment!
p.s. I took them to a nearby custom mod shop to be thrown on. Their comment? "We use Tire Rack all the time; they're great."
