Brake sensor problem?

I had the brakes done on my 2008 Clubman S.
After a week of everything seemingly fine.....today a display warning came up.... "Break Pads are at their minimum thickness". Obviously they are not. I had the sensor checked and it is in place. Are there other reason this could be happening?
I dont feel that this should have an effect..but just so you know all the variables....it started raining this morning here in So. California.
Thanks....

Short in the system or a bad sensor. Water bridging a gap unexpectedly ... maybe.

Was the sensor replaced? Maybe it was put it crooked and prematurely worn?

It was not replaced. It worked fine for a week after the brakes were done. I started it up in my garage on Monday and it did not display at first. Then once I got driving it came on.

It will need to be replaced. Weird it took so long to show up, but they are a wearable item.

What yetti said. They are pretty easy to put on. You take the wheel off, but no other disassembly is required. Pull the old one off the inside brake pad with a hook pick and push in the new one. Then follow where the sensor wire goes and plug in the new one. HAve some small zip ties to help hold the routing in place.

I was under the impression from other threads that unless the sensor is tripped from too much wear that you wouldn't have to replace it. Could it just be that he needs to reset the brake sensor via the CBC?

It can be removed and tied out of the way and never be tripped but the mileage at which you can still remove it is not exact as every car and driving style is different. Once it is tripped though it needs to be replaced because the mileage counts down as well and the wires tripping. There are 2 stages of wire I think.
