SSR Comp R Update
#1
A rather detailed onversation was had with SSR (Speed Star Racing of Japan)
We had been discussing the logistics of producing a wheel based on the current competition, to be titled the Comp R.
Our target would be stock class vehicles A 16x6.5 et44 direct bolt on application.
Looking to break the 11 lb mark.
This wheel would be the same color as center of the current Comp, edge to edge (without centercaps, and no machiened lip section.)
Decals would be provided saying "SSR" and "Comp R", uninstalled.
This is highly exciting for MCO, as your input and your interest will greatly affect if this wheel comes into exsistance.
Please let me know what your thinking.

Dan,
I would be a big supporter of this. SSRs have traditionally been the wheel of choice in Solo II Stock and Street Prepared categories if you can get them in the correct sizes. I would applaud a set that would be correct for the COOPER and COOPER S in stock classes. Any idea on pricing yet?

I'd be all for a SSR in a STOCK class size. The only "glitch" I see would be the SSR price tag. Don't get me wrong you do get what you pay for and the SSR's are usualy lighter than their cheaper competition, but the price difference doesn't usualy justify the weight savings. There are a few inexpensive ($75-$125) 16x6.5 wheels that weigh between 12-16 lbs.
If you must have the absolute lightest wheels than SSR is the way to go, if you're not within .01 seconds of a National title I think you're better off saving the $125 a wheel difference getting the 13lb wheel and spending the money on a driving school.
Now if the new "SSR" wheel came in with a price tag of about $150 I'd give it some serious thought.
On a side note:
a 48 offset seems a little high if you want to sell a lot of them. The Subaru WRX guys might buy some but most front drivers are going to want someting around 36-40.

After further discussion et 44 is what we have in mind. Just inside the 1/4 inch mark from OE. We have the ability, to even do down to 42 et.
Our thoughts on 44 et kept right insside stock class, and psuedo wide track.
Pricing should be circa $285 a wheel.
Weight 11 lbs
Another huge benefit of SSR is that strenth is acheived one of 2 ways, with mass or construction teqnique. Semi solid forging offers extremely light and strong in the same package

Exciting News!!
SSR has completerd their 1st batch for this Comp R designed for the Mini! They just began structual evaluation and testing in Japan. They use several sets of wheels to do this, I expect that we're still atleast a month or more out. Just wanted update MCS that we're getting closer1 Will be keeping you posted!

Sounds awesome. If you had a package that got me the tires I want and these wheels for about $1300, I'd take it in a snap. Not to nag.. but since TireRack doesn't discount packages, the tire I want at $122 would push the cost of a package to $1628+S&H vs. $1108+S&H for the (non) package price of the Kosei's and that tire. Don't get me wrong - you have great prices regardless.
Still - if the weight comes in at 11lbs, I might consider it if there was even any discount on a package of 4 with tires.
Any reason not to use these every day in Southern Calif?

>>I'd like to see what kind of package deal I can get, with tires. But I could be pursuaded to part with some of my hard earned cash for four SSRs and some good rubber. What kind of deals are you going to offer?
Its hard for me to offer pre made package deals without discussing with you what your tires need to do for you. There is no one size fits all when it comes to rubber. Give me a call and we can discuss the possibilities.

>>Dan:
>>
>>Is it only available in the 16", or are they also going to make a 17"?
I currently have a 17x7.5 in Silver and Anthracite, both with macheined lip.
The all anthracite, no lip, no centercap versions will only be 16x6.5.

What tire size? Did you want them shaved and heat cycled? Wheel ETA really depends on the results of formensioned testing. I will keep you posted

>>Dan,
>>I'd be interested in a package consisting of the above mentioned wheels and some appropriately sized Kuhmo ECSTA V700 tires for GS Autocrossing. What would something like that run, and when can we expect that these wheels will be produced?
