Brake fluid indicator

I cranked up my car today and since yesterday, it's been showing a brake service symbol and a date of 9/12. I checked the fluid tank. The brake fluid looks healthy and is full (healthy brake fluid is red, right?). My '09 Clubman has a hair under 30,000 miles and I never have seen any brake issues at all. I changed the oil last week and put in Mobil-1 synthetic. So, how do I reset the brake service indicator or is that something the dealer has to do?

Forgot something: am I REQUIRED to go to the dealer and have anything replaced? I can't think of anything they need to do other than reset the indicator.

MINI calls for the brake fluid to be flushed every 2 years. I'll bet if you look the symbol up in your owner's manual it will say something about taking it to the dealer for a fluid flush. It should be covered under your 3 yr/36000 mile maintenance program that came with the car.

I agree, sounds like the timer for the brake fluid flush. If you are still within your included maintenance, have the dealer do it.

There are a couple ways to reset the service indicator I've outlined in a document I put together. I would not reset it if you are still within your included maintenance period.

My car is a 2009, which I bought in Dec 2008 so I think I'm out of the free maintenance program.

Yes the brake fluid indicator just goes by 2yr time, you don't have to have the dealer do it. Just need to reset the light after changing the fluid.
