Taking the plunge (autocross wheels)
#1
I've been reading posts pretty carefully, but wanted one last opinion before laying out the cash. I drive a 2003 MCS in Street Mod. Currently running the stock 17 S Lites with runflats. I've decided to get the Kosei Racing 15x7's now (birthday present) and probably get the Kumho Victoracers in a couple of months. Does anyone have this setup or care to offer any comments? Obviously, money is a factor or I'd be getting the SSR Comps. Looks like Tire Rack has the Kosei K1's for $129. (We don't get a NAM discount do we Alex?) If anyone knows of a better wheel for comparable cost, let me know. If anyone's selling a set like what I described, let me know. Thanks. JR

Jayar, have you decided which class you want to race in for Autocross? Your sig says you have "go fast goodies" so I am guessing that you are not going to race in a stock class?
In case you are planning on racing in G-stock, you will need to use either 16 or 17" wheels rather than the 15's

I should have been more specific. I run in Street Mod because of the pulley. If not for that, I think I'd be in STX, but I really am not good enough to worry about my class. I'm looking for the best setup, then I'll figure out what class that puts me in. I guess I could go with full-on slicks and race a tougher class, but I think I'd like to go with DOT tires so I could drive to events here in town. Thanks. JR

Hey JR,
Don't buy the wheels and then wait to buy the tires. When you buy the combo package from Tire Rack, mounting and balancing is included. If you buy them independent, you're going to pay more for shipping and about $25 per wheel for mounting and balancing. Not to mention most local shops aren't well practiced with the R-compound tires. You're much better off waiting until you have the money for both. It will save you in the end. Besides, K1s don't make good wall decorations.
