7x16 ET 35 Cooper S

Hi guys, trying to find out if these wheels would fit my 07 Cooper S.
They are 7x16 ET 35 I would be using 205 50 16 winter tyres.
Anyone used this combination and is clearance ok?

Cheers.

Assuming you are not lowered, it should fit fine, but you may or may not have rubbing issues. Remember, these wheels will poke 13mm more outwards compared to the stock wheels.

I have that exact wheel and tire size on my Cooper S. No rubbing at all and I'm lowered with NM springs (1.2 inch drop). Take a look at it in my gallery.

Cheers guys looks like it will work out cheaper putting new wheels on rather than used mini wheels.

17×8, 4×100 with an ET 35

I wanted to get some really cool wheels and i found some that i really love!! The specs are as listed above and the hub cent. I know is correct. I am worried about rubbing. Also what tire spec would be appropriate? Something not too thin on the tire wall. Can i do in the 40s or is that too much? Please help (:

FWIW I'm lowered ~1.5" and with 205/50/16 on 16x7 et40 I was pretty close to the fender, but no rubbing.... you might be cutting it close. Maybe 195/50/16 would be a safer bet.

What suspension do you have? Stock or lowered?

For 17x8" et 35, compared to OEM 17" wheels, the new wheel is 0.3mm farther from the inner suspension and pokes out 25.7mm farther.

205/45-17 can be used on a 8" wheel but it's a little stretched. Normally it will fit rims 6.5 to 7.5" wide, perfect for 7" rim.

Do you have a budget for the tires? Did you want something that can be run in cold weather or some snow? Is ride comfort a priority?

If you want 40 series sidewalls (very firm riding) then-
205/40-17 fits rims 7-8" wide, perfect for 7" rim, 80 load rating is low
215/40-17 fits rims 7-8.5" wide, perfect for 7.5" rim, 83 load rating is fine
235/40-17 fits rims 8-9.5" wide, perfect for 8.5" rim, 90 load rating
245/40-17 fits rims 8-9.5" wide, perfect for 8.5" rim, 91 load rating

With OEM suspension any of these tires will fit, you may have to tilt the tire inward using negative camber or the tire will look too wide for the fender.

If you have bad roads then a 45 series sidewall makes more sense, 215/45-17 fits rims 7-8" wide and has good tire selection.

MINI load rating for tires is about 83-84 as a minimum rating, more is OK but less is not recommended for street use. Tire shops won't want to mount tires with less than OEM load ratings.

Remember that an 17x8" wheel is likely heavy and a wider than OEM tire is also adding weight. It takes more energy and effort to move a heavy wheel and tire and steering can be slow and less responsive.

Thank you and by the way i live in california so i am not worried too much about cold weather. My suspension is stock. I prefer it. And some roads here are really bumpy so i may go with the 215/45/17 as you said they will go with an 8" wheel. You said steering will be slower and less responsive. Will this be a big problem?

Anytime you add weight to a wheel with a car that has limited power you need more energy/power to move that wheel when accelerating, turning, braking, etc.

For street driving you will be fine but when you have to do hard acceleration or hard braking you may notice it takes longer.

It's like riding a bicycle with heavy wheels vs race wheels. Night and day difference in performance.

215/45-17 will work fine for you using stock suspension.

If budget is limited then some good choices include-
Max summer tires
Hankook Ventus V12 $80 each, 280 treadwear
Sumitomo HTR ZIII $80 each, 300 treadwear

Ultra High Perf Summer tire
Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 $85 each, 320 treadwear

Ultra High Perf All Season tire
Hankook Ventus S1 noble 2 $102 each, 500 treadwear

High Perf All Season tire
Kumho ecsta PA31 $88 each, 500 treadwear

Grand Touring All Season (for more comfort and longer treadlife)
General Altimax HP $81 each, 440 treadwear

If you have a larger budget and want the street tire of choice then-
Michelin Pilot Super Sport $135 each, 300 treadwear
